I'm burnt Out today & Bored - What's the best business casual carry gun?
Me | 16 June 2003 | PatrioticAmerican

Posted on 06/16/2003 7:19:18 PM PDT by PatrioticAmerican

I wear business casual clothes, slacks& shirt, quite often, as well as suits. Suits are easy to carry for, but for slacks and a shirt in the summertime, it gets more difficult.

So, what's your personal favorite handgun for concealed carry wearing summertime business casual clothes and how do you carry? What holster, daytimer, or pouch, etc.?

If I ever get involved in some serious business, I would hope that I have my Ruger KP90 loaded with my favorite Corbon 200gr +P hollow points on hand. Unfortunately, given the massive size of the KP90, this is not possible in my day-to-day business casual dress environment. Instead, I have found that the Beretta 950BS -.25 Cal. in stainless steel is the best compromise for absolute concealability and firepower. It holds nine rounds with the chamber charged and sports both a safety and a hammer half-cocked position. For liability reasons, I typically keep it loaded with Glaser frangible rounds. With this caliber, the best you can hope for is to bring your opponent down with one or two torso shots for shock value followed up with one or two shots to the head. I use a pocket wallet style holsters that can be obtained at any local gun show to round off this style of carry. Comments welcomed.

"NO ONE will laugh at even a small gun"

That really is the main point. I can handle myself well with any sized bad guy, but being out numbered or outclassed is more the problem. A gun is a nice equalizer. Besides, I want to just because I can now. PHTTTTT! to Denver.

My wife carries a Taurus Ultralite .38 special, and I carry a Taurus 605 .357, neither one has ever given a problem.

The Guardian has had the best overall ratings in the rags, so it certainly is a choice. I've never shot one. If you have, how does it shoot? I'm the type of guy where I'll buy on recommendation and take my chances. Then, again, I've never bought a gun I didn't like. (There are a number of them I would never buy in the first place.)

I've usually got a SIG P229 in .40 tucked into a special briefcase. It has an internal pocket/holster arrangement that can be reached handily from the outside. Said briefcase also has an internal kevalr panel for just a bit of exra protection.

Sans briefcase, my favorite 'businessman's special' and all time favorite backup weapon is a Walther PPK/S .380 in stainless. Loaded with hydrashok hollowpoints, it shoots reliably and accurately in my hands.

YMMV, but it works for me.

45 Colt? Wow! It's a bit too big for slacks carry, but I'd never say no to one of those. I reload for the 45 Colt and it's one of my favorite cartridges.

What type of briefcase? A full size or compact?

That could be a great option.

I rented one once at a las vegas gun range, just to try it out. It was very nice and accurate. It happend to be a trip that I did not bring a gun with me, so I had to rent when we all went to the range.. Its a well made good shooter from what I saw.

You just have to know how to handle it. It works great when you know what your doing. If you shoot it out like an old western where you try to throw the pistol every time you pull the trigger you end up with FTF.

Can't steal all that energy from the slide.

.40 with 10 rounds and the size of most small .38s. It's a nice combination.

I only use it during the summer when I'm out in shorts and a t-shirt.

One step up in the dress category, shorts and a baggy collared shirt I go with the PT145. Ten rounds of .45 are even better.

Cold winter with large coat I go with the 1911.

It's all about seasons and accessorizing.

Like I said. I have a Taurus Lightweight 7 shot 38. I love it and it is a fine firearm. My wife prefers it over many other guns that we have. She can shoot that thing in 38 +P all day.

The 38 titanium has been having its share of problems. Taurus has a reputation of returns on whole. Some of their product lines never have problems and some do. It seems they release some product lines before fully testing them. The 5 shot snubby 38 Titanium is one of those problem children.

Overall, I rate Taurus a high mark and recommend them. Their porting, grips, and overall handling is excellent. The onlyother snubbies that I like are Smith's. They have an excellent product line in lightweight concealables.

kAcknor Sez:

Click the link. I took a closer look and it also lists .45-70 Government!!!
I wouldn't wish to be on EITHER side of that when it went off!! ;)

BFR has a SA revolver in .45-70, but it has some weight, and I've read it feels like a .44 mag when fired.

BTW, shameless plug for Speacialty Sports of Colorado Springs. I have absolutely no relation to them, but they have ,000+ guns on display, including that one. It is amazing at how such a small palce has such a WIDE selection, and they probably one of the largest firearms dealers in many states.

Man! Any AD really could cause you to "blow the leg off!"

"No, really, that's my leg over there by the bar. Could you go get it for me?"

The first ones off the production line had a tendency to jam a lot, which could be remedied by sending it back to the manufacturer for a tune-up, or by following some instructions available on the Web. I've heard that the problem was fixed, and that they now work fine out of the box. I've only fired mine a few times, but my local gun dealer says that several "heavy user" customers have been very happy with theirs.

For a gun that weighs about the same as a key ring with your house and car keys on it, it's pretty darn good. You'll never leave it at home because it's too bulky, and the only gun that works in an emergency is one that you have with you. Sure, if I actually had to shoot an attacker, I'd wish I had my Browning 9mm with me, but as a very small-built woman, I'm just not realistically going to carry that thing around all the time, especially when I'm jogging, which is when I'm most often alone in secluded places.
