My 'help' posts are removed from forum rapidly
Posted on 07/26/2003 5:10:04 AM PDT by joanil
More woe. When I present a post asking for help or technical assistance I post in 'tech'/announcements/activism. I get the most help in the first few minutes after my post has been posted to the list. About five minutes later, my help post has vanisished from the freeper front page. My post is then relegated to the vast darkness of 'general interest' or something like that, which nobody ever visits.
If you ain't on the front page of Freeper, then your questions will definetely go unanswered.
Hey, I got some real good technical problems that need lots of help! Why not leave my post on the main screen for at least one hour before relegating it to the dungeons of Freep? This way I could get some good help with my questions.
Fellow freepers are so willing to help a fallen comrade with computer trouble, if only that 'help request' post stay available for more than five minutes before a forum administrator dispatches it to the murky depths of the never read/never visited gray area!
Hey, give me a break, huh?
Is not this the reason we are here to begin with? To help and seek help from fellow conservatives?

I think there is concern that the forum would get crammed up with everybody's help needs if they were allowed on the front page.
I don't know. But I guess this one will get pulled pretty fast as well.

If you have a tech problem why not post it to a tech forum - it's not as if there is a lack of them on the web...
This is a news forum.

You need to be logged in to get an answer to a tech problem.

Take a look at futuremark.com
Excellent tech and gaming forum.
To: alnitak
and also a 'help' forum on the freep front page if you have followed the page you will see that many tech posts are left on the front page for a long, long time by members asking for computer help.

You say no one goes to General Interest, so you want to have the main forum littered with all the posts that no one is interested in enough to go to General Interest to see (if people found the type of threads that are in GI to be so worthwhile, they would check there often). Also, you said you get your most help within five minutes, and then it is moved. If you got your help, what's the problem?

nobody goes there, no help is there because nobody goes there,
when my post is shuffled I only get a few good replies, but not all pertain to my issue, and then before more fellow freepers can see the post, poof, it is sent to the netherworld!
Would you not like to have your post where many can see it and many would give help?

You are missing my point.
By what you said, not many go to General Interest. That is pretty good evidence that people are not interested in the things that are moved there. Why should the main forum be watered down with things that people have proven to be not all that interested in?
