In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
want \want\, verb
wanted, wanting, wants; intransitive verb
wantage; wanter \Want"age; want-er\, noun:
1. The state of not having; the condition of being without anything; absence or scarcity of what is needed or desired; deficiency; lack; as, a want of power or knowledge for any purpose; want of food and clothing.
2. Specifically, absence or lack of necessaries; destitution; poverty; penury; indigence; need.
3. That which is needed or desired; a thing of which the loss is felt; what is not possessed, and is necessary for use or pleasure.
And me, his parent, would full soon devour For want of other prey. --Milton.
Pride is as loud a beggar as want, and more saucy. --Franklin.
Etymology: Middle English wanten, to be lacking, from Old Norse vanta. See eu - in Indo-European Roots.
Usage Note: When want meaning desire is followed immediately by an infinitive construction, it does not take for: I want you to go (not want for you to go). When want and the infinitive are separated by a word or phrase, however, for is used: What I want is for you to go. I want very much for you to go. Want in its meaning of have need, lack normally takes for: They'll not want for anything now that they've inherited his estate.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School! Thank Goodness It's Finally FRIDAY!
Class is now in session. The rules are simple, you get a grade if you use the WFTD in a sentence, haiku, limerick, or quatrain. You get a "+" if you make a link, or make the teacher laugh, or you offer the appropriate bribes. I hold the grade book, and the whip and chair.
I know this is a common word, but you've probably never really looked at it's history or it usage to closely. Have fun, I expect there we will not want for examples today.
Here there is a wantage of adults, only the plethora of pissy little parasites that sorely need scourging!
For want of honor
Democrats flee the city
For shame, they have none!

Actually, you are second.
I have no idea where the other students went, but I suspect dubyaismypresident locked them in the basement.

Eleven craven democrats bolted to New Mexico for want of maturity and common sense, too. You are right-they never had any honor. I used to vote split ticket in elections, depending on who I felt would do the best job, but I have voted a straight Republican ticket in both the last presidential race and the state races. I will certainly do so in 2004, as well. The idiots from San Antonio are toast as far as I am concerned.

He did lock us in the basement. But I managed to squeeze through the lock. I had a want to get out of there.

The little pissant is really going to do that? Oh, goodie! I don't think he is doing greyout any favors-lately, if he champions someone, it is the kiss of death for that person's political career. When is he due to open his mouth in Kalifornia? I want to see that in a comfortable chair, with popcorn and a beer!
