How Many Page Views Per Day? (VANITY ALERT)
None ^ | 8/16/2003 | me

OK, really lame and I hope this isn't a state secret ... we know FR has climbed on the rankings the past few months ... I was just wondering how many page views happen, on average, per day? ... I'm guessing around 900,000 to 1,000,000 per day ... maybe 1,400,000???

(dons flameproof suit ... watches sky for ZOT! ... LOL)

just curious!

wow ... that's about what I expect ... was FReepmailing somebody and I came up with the estimated numbers in my post which are right on the money it seems ... you can kinda estimate the pages ... i.e., take DrudgeReport's 6.2 million pages yesterday and 215 Alexa ranking and do the math with FR (953 IIRC) ... cool ... congrats ... man those servers must be busy ... double wow ...

Yes, the servers were really smoking during the period leading up to the Battle of Baghdad, but we installed some additional equipment and John found a way to send the files out in compressed mode, effectively doubling our throughput, so we made it through the crunch period ok. The load peaked in March and has now dropped back to normal. We've got plenty of capacity to handle the next peak load.

wow ... that's cool ... I did some rough calculations on my site numbers and also ran the difference in our rankings and guess the 900k-1 mil number ... I have theoretical unlimited bandwith but don't expect (or want) to have the kinda traffic you guys have ... are you eventually going to market your forum software for others? (perhaps you already do?) ... (no I'm not looking to start a forum ... too much work!!!)

oh yeah, they let you compare traffic ... neat ... roughly parallel ... the only story I have is when September 11 hit ... I was advertising one site on a smaller worldwide news service ... both sites (combined) went to 125 countries in the first 16 days of September 11 ... it was a shocking day to much of the world ... I don't want to see a day like that again ... God Bless our troops ...
