William Buckley quotes Free Republic
NRO ^ | sept 2 2003 | William Buckley

Posted on 09/02/2003 7:03:50 PM PDT by tbird5

Hope this hasn't been posted yet. I didn't see it today. William Buckley writes about the comments made in this forum about the Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis ordeal over the F word in their school newspaper.

It would appear he is not impressed by us, seeing the comments he chooses to quote.

Doesn't seem to me like he meant the quotes as a compliment to the site.

I think some public figures may decline to be associated with this site, because it represents grassroots conservative views that challenge the establishment, and not the "safe" RNC beltway conservative views that are often parroted on Sean Hannity's show.

I reread it and see no leaning either way.

Except this,

Reactions to the Lawrence Central High School ruling, expressed on FreeRepublic.com (a "Conservative News Forum")have been spirited and sprightly .

Any publicity.....

Doesn't seem to me like he meant the quotes as a compliment to the site.

It is a glimpse as to how the Internet forum now functions as a countrywide "barbershop". The "commentators'" contributions: short, unrehearsed, honest, some clever, playing off one another, some way off the cuff, form a jazz improvisation.

I've heard it said that the dialectic offered through FR's format - even at DU - arrives at the truth. But polyphony is a step beyond dialectic, and so it may arrive at, if not the truth, perhaps a hologram of shared reality.
