Britney: Mom Was Cool About Madonna Kiss
Reuters ^ | September 11, 2003 | Reuters

Posted on 09/11/2003 1:04:04 PM PDT by AntiGuv

LONDON (Reuters) - Britney Spears has revealed that her mother was not upset by her daughter sharing an open-mouthed kiss with Madonna at the MTV Music Video Awards.

The kiss proved to be a real showstopper in last month's awards ceremony, with 21-year-old Spears' former boyfriend Justin Timberlake watching dumbfounded from the audience.

Spears, talking to this week's edition of the BBC's Top Of The Pops Saturday, said she was embarrassed knowing that her mother had seen her in a clinch with another woman.

"It was a little awkward -- my mom saw me kissing a girl, Oh My God, " she said.

But Spears added: "If it was any other girl, I think she'd really have something to say. But because it was Madonna, she was like 'all right, baby, you're cool'."

The young pop star's clinch with 45-year-old Madonna won global coverage: "It was a surreal moment I'll never forget for the rest of my life," Spears said.

Britney articles require pix, like those about Anna Kournikova or Ann Coulter. :)

That's to be expected. Her mom has been virtually pimping her for years, since Britney was a young girl.

No surprise. The mother dressed her daughter as a sex toy cum hoochie mamma from the start and sold her like a 10-cent street whore. Mom probably was jealous Miss Ciccone didn't wash out _her_ tonsils.

It was a pretty screwed-up moment that I certainly hope she lives to regret. Legitimizing lesbian behavior to the young girls that constiute her fan base is rather disgusting. I don't beleive that Britney has a clue. And to the guys who think it was 'hot' - you they might need to do a little soul-searching and work it out before you have daughters of your own.

You're right. Human sexuality is something that should be stigmatized, because it is a dirty, dirty thing. Sorry, I don't see it that way.

By the way, have fun trying to convince billions of males that two women kissing isn't supposed to turn them on.

Why were any supposed conservative people watching MTV in the first place? Hell, I threw my television out a long time ago because I found it to be an offense to me. I don't watch MTV. I have never seen a Britney Spears video. This kiss didn't bother me at all. I know there's lots of things- like George Michael- on MTV that I don't care to see so I don't watch it. Simple as that. This is like people complaining about what this or that porn star did in their latest offering- why would a 'supposed conservative' watch it in the first place?

Well, if you look at how this whole thing is being played in the media, it's pretty obviously nothing more than a marketing campaign.

I noticed that AOL and others were continually running "polls" to find out how "outraged" we were. Now we have Slutney trying to keep it in the polls, and it's on the Cover of the Rolling Stone, and so on.

I give it a year before she does her Playboy spread...

It's kinda interesting, actually.

"Legitimizing lesbian behavior to the young girls that constiute her fan base is rather disgusting."

I watched on TV as Mick Jagger and Keith Richard do a little tongue waggle dance thingy on each other's tongues when I was young. Hmmmm, didn't make me a homo. Although, I do like the feel of silk and I don't mind someone opening a door for me from time to time either. Come to think of it, I do feel safer on a woman's bike! Hmmmmmmm......

You can't say homosexual behavior is wrong at the same time you take pleasure in watching people participate in it.

Why was anybody watching it? MTV is known to be populated by homosexuals. Why would a conservative watch it? And if he did, why would he complain since he knew it was a sewer he was going to in the first place?

At any rate, I didn't see it. You see? That's the point. MTV is not a public place. It's a place people choose to go- just like the Cheetah Club in Atlanta. Never been there- 'hear there's T & A on display though. No conservative can come out guns blazing for not getting their money's worth in the whore house- all right? Plain cut. You watch MTV, you get what you ask for. You watch MTV- whether you're liberal or conservative- you can't pretend to be outraged at anything you see there.

Don't choose to participate in the event by watching it, reading the articles and discussing it and then come crying to me that you're offended. You're complaining about the filth you're standing in but you chose the street.

Actually, most of us have a very strong sense of right and wrong. The difference is, ours is based upon rationality and evidence, not upon some old books and unanalyzed prejudices

Think about this. I am not complaing about the kiss. You are. You clicked on this thread- Britney: Mom Was Cool About Madonna Kiss ^- knowing pretty much what you were going to read about. And every time you refresh this thread, you know (as you have pointed out) that post number 11 contains a scene of mutual female osculation (and open mouthed at that- as if it had been closed mouth or Madonnna merely groping herself laciviously this would have been acceptable)- yet you choose to keep doing it.

If your complaint had been "why post such a disgusting graphic?"- it would've been one thing. But you played the 'moral indignation card'- which works well and is fair enough as long as there isn't anyone around who cares to 'one-up' you. (For example, how do you 'out-Christian' the person who thinks one should prostrate onesself 24/7 until he's dead of starvation?)

MTV, is not a public sidewalk. You don't have an intrinsic claim to 'incidental contact'. It is well-known what is at MTV- controversial things. You can't go to MTV and then talk about how the 'hookers' g'strings did/didn't show enough'. You can't. It doesn't add up.

You're free. You watched. You're offended. Your problem. We cannot keep you inviolate- in situ. You have come out of the womb and joined the world of the obscene, of the real. Reality is often offensive. We can dumb it down for you- but at what price? I think, it's better, if you opt out of the things that you feel cheapen your life- then your life is (for sure) not cheapened. Don't come to me and accuse me (as a proxy for free society) of cheapening you (or making you fat, lazy, stupid, cancerous etc). You did this to yourself.

You obviously haven't bothered to read this thread. I posted to a supposed conservative who took pleasure in watching homosexual behavior. That I find disgusting...I expect that kind of behavior from the MTV sluts, not conservative men. And I certainly didn't expect men like that to have a support base here, I was wrong.

You obviously haven't bothered to read this thread.

And you obviously haven't bothered to read my message.

I posted to a supposed conservative who took pleasure in watching homosexual behavior.

To reiterate- you dragged out the 'supposed conservative' argument. This is what I referred to as the 'moral indignation card'. You see, you can bandy about the term 'supposed conservative' but what if the next fellow (ME, for example) says 'well, a supposed conservative would never have watched this scene in the first place'.

What then? You see, once we get into the Stasi-like accusations of what is conservative and what not- hell, everybody can be more conservative than you. It's all a matter of will.

Freedom has, apparantly, many loose and shifty definitions. But as a conservative, I would hope that you could agree that one must take responsibility for ones own actions. You can, therefore, never assemble a coherent argument for why you witnessed the evil event in the first place given that it was held in a place of evil- MTV.

You're really not getting this are you? You can't pull the Jimmy Swaggart on us. If you saw the evil, it's because you chose to be in the evil place from the get-go. Not that Sodom And Gomorroh should've repented for your benefit.

MTV features many homsexuals. If you don't care for that sort of thing- don't go!!! Don't come to me complaining about how a gay guy hit on you while you were sipping the suds in a gay bar! Do you not see the hypocrisy there?

Don't go to Madonna's house. Don't go to her place of work. Don't go to the places she frequents. If you figure Madonna is immoral because she kisses women- hello! from over a decade ago! This is what Madonna does! It is a known fact that she has/had consensual female sex. If this offends you- why watch it in the first place!

I don't get it. Are you conservative or not? You see? This is the 'moral indignation trump' and it aint nice is it? I'm holding you to the same standard to which you hold Madonna and this Britney Spears. You were in there witnessing their act just as if you were one of the ones applauding it.

In today's world, your indignation at the act you have chosen to see is as good as affirmation of the act. The only way to circumvent you morality is to unplug (and even this is not sure).

Oh brother there is no talking to you... your in your own world where I am Jimmy Swaggart cruising MTV for something to gripe about. Its just not worth the effort for me to try once again to explain my position. I will say this, I don't think homosexuality is a conservative ideal and I don't expect to see people drooling over it on a conservative forum. Perhaps you think differently.

Regardless of when it is done, pasting a quote from someone else's post is still "reposting" their comments.

And if the moderator pulls the original comments, it's safe to say he would pull any reposts of those comments where he finds them.

Otherwise, why bother removing them at all?
