STUPID COMPUTER
Me
Posted on 10/06/2003 7:14:56 AM PDT by GYPSY286
My stupid computer is acting up again. Does not shut down properly. Then, when I turn it back on again, I get the standard message that because the computer was not shut down properly, the machine will scan for errors, yada, yada, yada. Also, I have my homepage set for FR. When I click on the internet (dsl), I get PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND. I go into internet options and instead of www.freerepublic.com as my homepage, it lists a bunch of numbers. I type in www.freerepublic.com, click apply, and it works. I shut the machine off, next time I use it, I get the same numbers and page not found. Any help would be appreciated.

I know how you feel. I can't get the suspension on one of my Porsches just right.

Your computer has a virus.
On the menu bar of your browser, click Tools then "Windows Update". Follow the directions there to scan your computer and download updates.
Also, you may want to consider installing a personal firewall such as Zone Alarm (
http://www.zonelabs.com). There is a free version.

Sounds like you have some kind of adware. You should get ad-aware or a program like that and do a deep scan, then delete everything that turns up. Some malicious "freebie" programs like Gator will turn your computer into a weeping, mushy mess.

Try deleting your temp files and cookies. Then run defrag and a virus scanner program.

The only "suspension" on my porch is a cheap hammock.

Yep, the vicious circle strikes again. Create problem, then sell software to fix it.

try this: assuming you're using Internet Explorer - go to Tools then Internet Options. On the "General" tab, delete cookies and delete files. Then reset your home page to FR. Close and reopen the browser and see if that works.

I just went out and bought a MAC G4. It is as solid as a rock.
