I just checked the statistics and found that MT has had a total of eight Republican senators in its history. But there have been only TWO Republican senators from the state since 1913, Zales Ecton and Conrad Burns.

Very interesting. I knew Burns had been the only GOP Senator from MT to be reelected (at least since the popular election of Senators began), but one would think that a couple of more Republicans would have been elected.

Michael Dukakis got 46% in Montana in 1988---I don't think a Democrat presidential candidate will ever again get such a high percentage of the vote in the state.
