Bob Beers would make a great Governor, much better than RINO Jim Gibbons.

Yes, and alas that is why he will lose. NV people don't want a "great" governor: they just want business as usual as do their counterparts in the other states too. Otherwise, how could Harry Reid still be their long-term senator?

I once lived in Nevada. It's one of the most apolitical states, because there are so many newcomers and virtually no one has any roots there. So it's hard to get the populace's attention.

But who knows? Perhaps Beers can ignite a grass-roots following.

Umm, your being rediculous. Gibbons has a 91 from the ACU.

He's no RINO.

Vote fraud? (he won his '98 race by 428 votes)

I don't have a clue about Nevada politics. It looks like most of my time and effort will be going to Diana Irey and Lynn Swann, and mostly Diana.

Good luck in Nevada! :)

Gibbons is a RINO, and it has almost nothing to do with his ACU rating. He put his personal career ahead of the state, the party, and the country. He was the one and only candidate in the state of Nevada who could defeat Harry Reid, and he absolutely refused to run against "his buddy." It would've meant one less rodent in the Senate to contend with, taking out the leadership in one fell swoop (along with Daschle in SD). Sorry, but Gibbons doesn't deserve the office of dogcatcher. No rewards for spineless Weldite/Janklow RINOs.

BOB BEERS FOR GOVERNOR !

I know what would be a good campaign slogan:

"This Beer's For You"

Typical arrogant, know-it-all, self-defeating stupidity.

But I wouldn't expect anything else from you.

Carry on.

Bob Beers is clearly better-qualified to be Governor. He's a CPA who designed a new accounting software program. By contrast, Jim Gibbons is a lawyer & career politician. There are far too many of those in public office.

Umm, you are wrong on a whole series of issues.

For one, why does being a CPA and designing accounting softwear make one - 'more qualified' to be Governor?

Second, Gibbons has been a lot more then just a politician and a lawyer. He has an extensive, distinquished military career, has worked as an airline pilot, as well as a geologist, of all things.

He served two terms in the Navada State Legislature in the late 80's/early 90's, and has served since 1996 in Congress. A decent amount of time in public service? Sure. A career politician? Not by any reasonable standard.

A fellow Freeper very recenetly brought this to my attention: Lana Reid Barringer, the daughter of Harry Reid, contributed to Jim Gibbons' 2004 reelection campaign. More recently, she contributed money to elect Dawn Gibbons to Congress. They are the only Republicans she has contributed to.

Here is an link: http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=&zip=22101&last=BARRINGER&first=LANA

In a previous post, you indicated that you're not an admirer of Harry Reid. This casts a pall over Gibbons conservative credentials. I think you should give Bob Beers a chance.

So you believe in rewarding those cheap RINO cretins that aid Democrats, right ? Just making sure we're all clear on that.

I'd rather look at the depth and bredth of someone's experience and qualifications then silly innuendos.

I always find that there is a tendency among certain conservatives to push good folks to run for office, and then, once they actually get elected and become politicans, and :gasp: actually do political things, they turn on you. You'd think 'OK, well, they want people who have been successful in private business'. But then, no, not so much that either, at least if you consider how Pete Coors was treated by some among the base. Darryl Issa is another one that demonstrates this same problem.

Anyhow, it leads them to support the underdog candidate for flimsy and/or non-existent reasons, because there is some sense that somehow they'll take the politics out of politics.

Well, they won't, and they don't, and usually, they just screw up if they try, and screw up not only for themselves, but for their party. It seems to me you are making the 'underdog' mistake.

I'd give Beers a chance if he A. Had a chance in hell of winning, and/or B. Had better experience and/or qualifications.

He has neither. I'll pass.

How about: "Beers for Nevada." Either one would work.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, so we'll have to agree to disagree. That's politics.
