Lt. Gov. Mary Fallins first-place finish in the July 25 Republican primary for Oklahomas 5th District seat, with 35 percent of the vote, didnt automatically make her the front-runner for her Aug. 22 runoff against Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, who took 24 percent in the first round.
But the endorsements Fallin received Monday from all four of the other candidates who ran in the primary and who received a combined 41 percent of the vote may do the trick.
In order of their finish in the primary, state Corporation Commissioner Denise Bode, state Reps. Kevin Calvey and Fred Morgan, and surgeon Johnny Roy rallied together behind Fallin, who is competing for the seat that seven-term Republican Rep. Ernest Istook left open to run for governor.
I believe the highly ethical manner in which Mary ran her campaign speaks volumes to her ability to lead, Bode said in a statement Monday. Mary Fallin has worked hard, knocked on doors, and has studied the issues facing Oklahoma voters, and I believe she will continue that tradition when she goes to Washington.

This is a big positive for Mary Fallin. The other candidates must think highly of her.
The runoff is August 22.
Mick Cornett is generally regarded as the more conservative of the two, fwiw.
"Mick Cornett is generally regarded as the more conservative of the two, fwiw."
I'm surprised you heard that, as I've read diffently.
I read that at The Corner, iirc. Also, Cornett was endorsed by the Republican Study Committee.
Granted, we're not talking about a major distinction in any event. Either Mary Fallin or Mick Cornett would be one of the most staunch conservatives in Congress.
Fallin's a good egg.
BTTT
Thanks very much!

BUMP
As I've stated, my problem with Cornett is that he was just returned to the OKC Mayorship a few months ago, and if he had been fully interested in running for this seat, he wouldn't have bothered with the other. There has only been 1 woman elected to Congress from OK since statehood, and the last was 86 years ago with a one-term Republican in the 1920 GOP landslide, and obviously is long overdue for another one.
We need to increase the number of pro-life women in Congress so, all things being equal, I'd rather have Mary Fallin win.
