Goddard to make run for House seat (GA)

A retired commander at Robins Air Force Base said Monday he will seek the GOP nomination to oppose Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall for the 8th Congressional District.

Retired Maj. Gen. Richard Goddard said people have asked him to run before, but seeing the Democratic-controlled Congress in action this year inspired him to take the leap.

"The landscape has changed," Goddard said. "When I see the leadership in charge of Congress, the vision the liberal left has for the country is not the vision I have had for many years and it is not the vision that most men have fought and died for."

Goddard, 62, is currently vice president of Mercer University. He was a fighter pilot in Vietnam and flew 227 combat missions. He came to Warner Robins in 1997 when he was named commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center and installation commander. He retired in 2000, and decided to stay in Warner Robins. His wife, Judy, has chaired the Houston County Republican Party.

Goddard gives the GOP a military veteran in a heavily military district to challenge Marshall, who is also a decorated Vietnam veteran. Goddard was strongly recruited to run by the National Republican Congressional Committee, said committee spokesman Ken Spain.

This should be interesting. The question now is whether Mac Collins will still run. He hasn’t announced yet, so now I’m thinking that he won’t run.

It’s funny, my uncle is the same age as this guy, a combat pilot in Vietnam, descended from a famed “hanging judge” from the New Mexico territorial days (who sentenced the infamous outlaw Black Jack Ketchum to death), looks the part of someone you’d want to run for public office, but he turned out a moonbat Socialist (his wife, my aunt by blood relation, is a White supporter of La Raza).
