Whether he's on the golf course or behind the wheel, Dan Burton loves taxpayer-funded caddies.
"U.S. Rep. Dan Burton's primary challenger today accused the Indianapolis Republican of wasting taxpayers dollars by spending office funds on a Cadillac DeVille and on mass mailings touting his accomplishments.
"'I'm sure the average Hoosier taxpayer struggling to pay their own bills will be comforted to know that they are paying for Dan Burton to enjoy a luxurious Cadillac DeVille for over $700 a month,' said John McGoff, an Indianapolis doctor.
"Burton is not the only one of the state's nine House members who leases a car with office funds. Only Reps. Steve Buyer, R-Monticello, and Brad Ellsworth, D-Evansville, did not report spending money on leased vehicles during the first six months of the year, according to public spending reports.
"Rep. Julia Carson, D-Indianapolis, reported the delegation's most expensive lease, a Chrysler 300 costing $768 a month for the first three months of the year.
"Burton's Cadillac DeVille was the next-most expensive, costing $702 per month. In addition to the Cadillac, Burton's office also reported spending $406 per month on a Dodge Grand Caravan.
"McGoff charged that the combined cost of $1,100 a month is more than most families spend on housing.
"Burton was not immediately available for comment."

Dan Burton may be good on the issues, but his luxurious living at taxpayer expense is inexcusable. He should go and live in the real world.
I feel a Calcowgirl moment coming on...
Isn’t this outrageous? A few months back, he missed 19 votes while playing at a celebrity golf tournament. Is this why we elect conservatives to Congress?

Nothing republicans do surprises me anymore...
Is this a GOP-strong district?
Yes it is. It features wealthy suburban Hamilton County and the northern portion of Indianapolis. The general election will be no problem. The Republican primary is where it will be decided.
I figured as such. If a dem could’ve capitalized on this they would’ve. I say we reject Mr. Burton in the primary. I am disgusted with the corruption eating our party from within.
