McCain: "simply loathed by many fellow Republicans"
AmericaBlog ^ | January 31, 2008 | Joe Sudbay

Posted on 02/01/2008 12:49:53 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

McCain is loathesome. And, it's not just fellow Republicans who despise him. But, if the hard core GOPers want to hate their front runner, who are we to stop them:

But Sen. McCain still confronts a problem both in the remainder of the nomination race, and, if he wins, in the fall: He is simply loathed by many fellow Republicans, often for the very bipartisanship and maverick streak that attracts independents. His biggest, and perhaps final, test comes Tuesday, when 21 states hold contests -- most of them open only to Republican voters.

"So it is over. Finished. In November, we'll be sending out our most liberal, least trustworthy candidate," conservative author and talk-radio personality Michael Graham said on a conservative blog, reacting to Sen. McCain's third primary victory, two days ago in Florida. The right wingers have reason to loathe McCain. They know enough not to trust him. This matters because it is the hard core base that does the work at election time. McCain is not their guy. GOPers are good at imposing discipline on their minions. But, the minions have spent a lot of time and energy hating McCain. More after the break.

Last year, back when McCain was the initial GOP front runner Vanity Fair profiled him. Besides delving into McCain's notorious temper, the article made it clear that McCain isn't quite the straight talker he purports to be. On the social issues near and dear to the hearts of the right wingers, McCain is a pretender:

"Yes, he's a social conservative, but his heart isn't in this stuff," one former aide told me, referring to McCain's instinctual unwillingness to impose on others his personal views about issues such as religion, sexuality, and abortion. "But he has to pretend [that it is], and he's not a good enough actor to pull it off. He just can't fake it well enough."

Right wing News Max, a publication to which we would usually never link, has written several blistering pieces on McCain. It's worth a look just to see how deep the hatred is. An August 2006 article about McCain's notorious temper even pondered if McCain was "healthy enough to serve?" No love there.

I loathe him with a white hot intensity.

The only thing I ever wanted to do for a living was fly. I have loved every aspect of aviation for as long as I can remember. For a variety of reasons I was never able to attain my goal, but have kept that love of my youth to this day.

For that reason alone I admire and respect John McCain. He did what I was not able to do, and he did it to the utmost. Few people become fighter pilots and in my mind it makes them something just less than a god. I have the same respect for those who fly anything for a living, or like John Travolta get ratings by the bushel even though they are paying for it with their own money.

That having been said, let me hasten to add that I could NEVER vote for John McCain for president. Regardless of how I feel about him as a man, he is not presidential material. In my mind the two are completely separate issues.

Nothing to argue with there. For just about anyone else that I disagree with, I could vote over the Democrat, but McAmnesty?

I hate that man. Absolutely not one redeeming quality in him. I despise him.

You know how, when yer a kid and you touch a hot stove? You learn to not do that again. McAmnesty is red hot. We’ve touched that stove. No thanks.

“They know enough not to trust him. This matters because it is the hard core base that does the work at election time.”

I seriously doubt that many of us will work for McAmnesty in ‘08. Hey, maybe Juan can get his “people” to do the work that Americans just won’t do? Of course he’d have to make sure they spoke english.

I have the utmost respect for what McCain did for this country just as you do. I also will not be voting for him unless he has a very conservative VP pick.

I just want to point out one thing to you concerning McCain becoming a fighter pilot. His father and grandfather were both retired admirals and I believe were both living at the time he became a pilot. That being said, do you think that he might have had the skids greased a little bit to get to be a fighter pilot?

Sure, he still had to do it, but he had a lot easier time than you would in trying to become a Navy fighter pilot. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Me, I was just a little old Marine Corps grunt. I had no connections. My dad was in the Army in the Korean conflict. He pounded the roads and carried a rifle also. I guess maybe he helped me out after all... : )

There is nothing to like about McCain:
*He lacks self control and his lies are outrageous. Who can ever believe him?
*He resorts to obscenities because he is unable to express himself in normal ways. How will he be able to handle meetings with diplomats and world leaders?
*He is uncouth, not presidential.
*He is unhealthy and appears of unsound mental state - smiling and talking to himself with a odd look in his eyes. *He lacks good moral character - Keating 5, adultery, etc.
*He is willing to sellout this country as shown by his amnesty votes. No one who loves this country would have done that.
*CFR.

I cannot find anything that would make him suitable for POTUS.

McCain is a RINO and with serious emotional problems and reality dissconnects. Coulter is a hot looking blonde (a little on the attenuated side, physically) with great erudition, poise, and intellect.

People to fail to realize this have a perception deficiency.

Hardly.

McCain is a Hillary clone - I think they were separated at birth.

Both are drived by an overwhelming urge to sit in the oval office at any cost and are devoid of philosophical or doctrinal encumbrances.

In a choice between Hillary and McCain, most people will see a tired, nasty, not particularly imposing or well-spoken man versus a female version of Bill Clinton.

Who do you think they will pick? Why go for the pael copy when you can have the original leftist?

John McCain continues to “tout” his military experience and the media plays up to it because they want him to run against Hillary as they know he is vulnerable. If he wins, they get a paler version of Ms. Clinton. Either way its a win-win situation for them.

John McCain was a pilot and a P.O.W. I respect his service to his country and what he suffered from the Viet Namese. But his experiences hardly make him a military expert. There are thousands of veterans out there with similar experience. He is no George Washington or Dwight Eisenhower. And Abraham Lincoln waged a very difficult war with succes with minimal military exposure.

‘According to Rasmussen, McCain is sHillary’s worst nightmare.’

Thats because Rasmussen thinks the GOP base will show up on election day to back McCain.

He couldn’t be more wrong. McCain will depress GOP turnout, not energize it.

We’re seeing that in every political forum thats Republican/Conservative based on the internet right now.

Now that the story about McCain approaching the Democrats about switching party’s along with that idiot Jimmy Jeffords....sorry, screw this megalomaniac.

McCain thinks he can win without Conservatives.

Okay. Lets watch and see.

The last chance we had to vote for a successful business man for president was Ross Perot. I did not vote for him because Bush-41 was my man. Now we have a 2nd chance to vote for another successful businessman. And we will blow it again.

I feel the same way. McCain is red hot to "solve" global warming. His insane rabid support of that one issue alone shows he is a totalitarian at heart. The amount of taxes and regulations that will be rammed down our throats to "solve" that, will utterly destroy our economy and Liberty.

Our Brave Warriors are fighting to preserve our Liberties and this insane McCain, if elected, will do everything in his power to push us into a Socialist slave state. McCain should NEVER receive the vote of anyone who cherishes Liberty.

It's the conservative base that does the grunt work and the trench warfare.

We man the phones, stuff the envelopes, cough up the money, go to the rallies, buy the tickets and raffles and freep the streets.

I'd like to ask the freeper veterans here how many "moderate" Republicans they have ever seen freeping the street corners with us over the past decade? How many "moderate" Republicans have they personally seen standing with us in front of the White House freeping the Creep in icy cold weather?

The answer of course is "none". Yet the conservatives are ignored till it's time for the GOP politicians to pay lip service to them every two or four years.

Secretly, they think conservatives are a bunch of gun totin' country yahoos and/or suburban nerdy men with dull stay-at-home wives all of whom are not fit to kiss their rings.

I believe the November election will finally demonstrate to them the icy reality of ignoring the base.
