After watching the debate live and now having had a couple days to fully absorb what was all too obvious that night: McCain won--oh, my mistake--John.
It's hard to not be partisan when saying who won--especially since each candidate did express their positions rather clearly, but I'll give it a shot. I try to imagine what it would have been like if I'd just woken up from a coma, or had never heard of either candidate before. What would I admire in each of them? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Are they smokers or non-smokers?
The most important answers McCain gave were those where he mentioned his years of service--of making decisions and getting his hands dirty, not always on the side of his party or president. If I had never heard the hero's name before, I would have left that debate knowing he understands the system and has the experience required to make those tough decisions. McCain's references to the scant number of days of Obama's senate tenure, how Obama has been running for president instead of traveling to war zones and talking with our generals, the "strategy" vs. "tactic" discussion, as well as the heated portion about interacting with unfriendly political adversaries, rightly should make Obama supporters nervous. (I guess that explains the horrendously one-sided spoof of the debate on SNL that made McCain seem old, crazy and wrong to have wanted to do townhall meetings, while "Obama" breezed through the sketch acting as the sane anchor of the debate.)
Unlike McCain's decisive victory in the foreign policy portion, the economic portion of the debate might seem like a draw merely because each candidate presented the two ideologically opposing positions. Liberals love taxing the perceivedly "rich" and any koolaid drinkers love hearing "tax cuts for 95%" without thinking about all the billions of dollars of programs Obama wants (on top of the 700 billion dollar bail-out). As a fellow boy scout said on a campout years ago, "dinner doesn't cook itself," so we'll have to lace up those aprons after all under Obama's plan.
Still, considering the coma scenario, I am positive McCain would have appeared as the intelligent, savvy, gutsy leader with the solutions to our problems. Next to war hero McCain, Obama looked like a tweed-wearing professor of public speaking, who has spent his life pontificating, instead of getting his hands dirty in the trenches.
I'd say that we should all try and proudly earn F's in Professor Obama's class, however he doesn't believe in grades. He merely marks his students as "present".
0bama called him John more than once, but McCain never called 0bama Barack.
Someone on here yesterday said that 0bama called McCain “Tom” during the debate. However, this has never been proven, I don’t think. It might have caused a race war. LOL.
He did call him “Tom” at one point. I heard it with my own ears.
If he doesn't respect John...Who does he respect? You??? Me???
Didn't he call some woman of status "sweetie"???
And what's with the: "I agree with John....again and again and again...
Lehrer did a lousy job in my opinion....with his....talk to each other. The debates were viewpoints "addressed to the American People".
Several of us here also heard the Tom mistake. He also called him Joe which can be mistaken for the moderator, the Tom also could be that he was about to speak of Tom Coburn. Trust me, I would never make excuses for that a##hat but that’s what I heard.
Of course there’s so much worse out there about O that I cannot fathom how the media let’s it go.
I’m sure you’ve seen this but it needs to be passed around to everyone we know and everyone in the media.

I personally think the use of McCain's given name, was just pure arrogance on Obama's part..
I was re-watching video of the debate and Obama did, in fact, call, McCain, “Tom.” It was during the exchange when Obama was mentioning Tom Colburn as someone he was able to work with in a bipartisan fashion.

I was very offened by Obama adressing Senator McCain as John. Shep Smith from Fox commented on it after the debate saying that people from his part of the country would notice it.
Has any candidate every done this in the General Election debate? (I could understand it more in a primary debate where the candidates are mor e friendly.)
Even when Lloyd Bentsen zinged Dan Quayle he was respectful enough to say, “Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.”
I heard him call McC “Tom”. I thought: good thing McC didn’t call obambi by the wronf name. It would’ve been above the fold, 24/7 and a major obambi ad...”Old, stumbling, forgetful...”
Not onl does obambi get a total pass, but the connotation of his using “Tom”, which, were we to apply the liberal yardstick, could be attributed to his inner thoughts of “Uncle Tom”. Republicans are increasingly becoming an endangered segment of our society. Watch these clip and be afraid. Very afraid. If he is already applying these Gestapo tactics, there’s little doubt what will happen to us if he gets in. Look at these and email them to our media ‘friendlies’.

He interupted Senator McCain numerous times. I think it was an attempt to get Senator McCain to lose his temper. Unfortunately Barak lost his own cool. Of course that and his faces where reported by all the talking heads right.
