Kentucky Senate President David Williams says he’s not running for the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Williams, a Republican, says he doesn’t have time to focus on a U.S. Senate bid. Instead, Williams says, he’s seeking another term in the state Senate and looking to retain the Republican lead in that chamber.
U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, also a Republican, currently holds the post and says he’s seeking another term. But Bunning has been viewed as one of the more vulnerable incumbents, and some party leaders have not exactly embraced his candidacy.
Williams says he’s not endorsing another candidate in the GOP primary.

Williams hasn’t endorsed anyone, but he gave a near-endorsement to Cathy Bailey, who was Ambassador to Latvia under the last President. I know very little about her.
I’m still hopeful that Trey Grayson is the nominee.
I thought I read Bunning was retiring! Did I read correctly here that he is running again? Could be yet another seat we are giving away. What a shame. Though who knows. It could end up being a good GOP year.
Bunning needs to have a Come to Jesus meeting. He deserves to retire with dignity, not go down in flames.
Unless there is a dramatic shift, 2010 will see a few more Senate seats lost. It will be 2020 before they can get back to a majority, if ever. Bunning needs to step aside, as Stevens should have done last year.
I read on National Review that Sarah Steelman will not run in MO. I hope Roy Blunt can win but for whatever reason it sounds like the Carnahan name is magic in that state. Pretty sad when people vote based on a silly family legacy. Like the Kennedys!
This is my worry. As it is now, we’re at 40 on paper, but only 38 when you count the Maine Twins. We could easily slip down as many as 5-6 Senate seats as I outlined in a post recently (even if we win House seats). We last were at 34 in the mid ‘60s, but it’s worth pointing out that we at least had some actual Conservative Dems at the time, and now there are zero (and sorry, media, moderately leftist is NOT Conservative).
Bunning is getting senile. In the spring, Bunning did an internal poll regarding his re-election chances. When the media asked him aobut the results, he replied, “None of your God d*** business!” Plus, he also claimed Ruth Bader Ginsburg will die this year. Bunning is attempting to based his election on conservative dis-satisfication witht he GOP. He even hinted of running as a 3rd party if he doesn’t get the GOP nomination.
I don’t think a very good year would save him. If he’s in the race then the race is about him, not R or D (at least not for enough people).
Only democrats are allowed to be senile because the media ignores that and most of the voters they need to win don’t care anyway.
