They are both Nanny State RINO’s but Perry is Pro-Life and that makes him the best.

But again, I think that there will be an “Operation Chaos” in Texas that will have Democrats swinging the GOP Nomination to KBH.

Is she a moderate posing as a conservative? Moderates are more dangerous than Liberals! At least I know where a liberal stands!

Buckeye, I just found this Facebook posting about Debra Medina’s plan to replace Texas Property tax with consumer tax. She bases her proposal on this study referenced below:

Debra advocates the abolition of property tax in favor of a broader based sales tax. This would bring us to revenue neutral in two years and allow us to lower the sales tax rate from 6.25% to 6.1%.

Debra has based her tax plan on a study done by Dr. Art Laffer called “Enhancing Texas’ Economic Growth Through Tax Reform.” The study was ... Read Morecommissioned ... Read Moreby the Texas Public Policy Foundation and was published in April of this year. You can see that study here: http://tinyurl.com/ybb9x3t

You can also listen to Debra elaborate on this plan in her interview on the Mark Davis Show: http://tinyurl.com/ye69x8q

Please add me to all the pings.

I am a Debra Medina supporter, as I believe she is the only candidate who truly stands for limited government, individual liberty, property rights, free markets, and Texas sovereignty (and she is unequivocally pro-life).

In a normal election environment, I would agree that her chances would be next to nil... but I think in this historic amazing Tea Party filled hyper-passionate Obama-world we are living in right now just about anything is possible and I could easily the see the underdog take this thing if she gets some grassroots palinesque anti-establishment momentum going. Take a look at her stand on the issues, especially her suggestions for how Texas can stand up to the feds if Obama pushes through something like his health care plan or cap’n’tax, and then imagine what could happen to her support... especially given that so many of us don’t really want to vote for the other candidates anyway and are secretly looking for an excuse to vote for someone else who actually stands for what we do... with just one favorable appearance on say... THE GLENN BECK show!!!???

Furthermore, I think this is one of those elections where perceived political experience and exposure (some of the claimed weaknesses aimed at Debra’s candidacy) might actually be a strength rather than a weakness... and I want all of you conservatives to ask yourself the honest question: DO YOU REALLY THINK RICK OR KAY WILL DO ANYTHING TO SUBSTANTIVELY STAND UP TO WASHINGTON DC OR TO SUBSTANTIVELY TAKE ON AND/OR SHRINK THE PROGRESSIVE WELFARE AND REGULATORY STATE? KBH actually believes in some of that stuff and Perry has had a decade to begin shrinking the state government and somehow hasn’t managed to get started on the task yet.

Don’t fall into the trap, fellow conservatives, of voting for the lesser of two evils... at least take a look at Debra Medina and consider.

You always know where a Liberal stands and its always awful. So you at least have a chance with a moderate. So I don't accept your premise.

However I used to live in Texas. A conservative should be able to prevail there and we shouldn't have to settle for a RINO or moderate there. Texas is not Maine where RINOs are necessary evils because all the voters are liberals or RINOs. Texas must have drastically changed over the last 40 years since I left.

A discussion point for the txgov2010 ping list:

As most of you know I don’t support KBH and am planning to vote for Perry. I’ve taken a hard look at Medina but I don’t think she can win. So, once again, I feel forced to vote for a candidate with the money to win. I’m not particularly unhappy with Perry. However, I do disagree with a few things he’s done as governor.

It seems we conservatives find ourselves in this position much of the time. That is voting for the candidate we think can win rather than the candidate with whom we most agree. We keep telling ourselves that we don’t do it again - that we’ll vote our principles next time rather than vote in another RINO.

I’ve seen many of you comment that you also like Medina but that she’s either not ready or can’t win. I’m asking myself if I’m going to stand on principle this time and vote for the most conservative candidate or the one I think can win. How about you? Anyone else waffling? If there is little difference between Perry and Hutchison, why not vote Medina?

Just thinking out loud. Thoughts from the group?

At present, it looks like I will be supporting Medina. Perry wanted to give our roads away. We need a strong conservative governor who will stand up to Washington.

Medina, as I understand, is a Paul-bot. No way can I vote for her. KBH is no conservative, so that leaves Perry. He is RINO-ish in many regards, but sometimes, when those are your choices, you vote for the least bad. I will vote for Michael for Senator.

Did anyone else get a robo-call over the weekend for Rick Green? I don't think I have ever had one for a supreme court justice.

Re: Medina.

Vote your conscience, which should be fueled by your intellect and moral sense.

Medina is a long shot, true. But so was American Independence, and it was achieved with only 3% of the population actively involved, and maybe 10% in a logistical support role.

I understand the risk of voting for someone who may be "unelectable", but I also understand the dulling of one's own sense of power and importance by constantly bending and compromising and letting the camel get his nose into the tent just a little bit.

At some point, each one of us, individually, must say "This far, no further. This is the line in the sand, and I don't care if I am its only defender, it will not be crossed."

We are the land of the Alamo, after all.

Sorry, but that's a lame reason to not vote for someone. Regardless of whether or not she'll win, if a voter feels that she'd be our best choice for Gov., then by gosh vote for her.

It may be lame in your opinion but at the moment that is where I find myself as well.

I was able to only catch the last 30 minutes of the debate a week ago. I thought Debra Medina handled herself very well for a newbie. In fact, I liked her answers better than those of Gov Perry and KBH. Those two seemed more intent on throwing jabs at each other while Medina was hitting on issues more.

Did anyone see the whole thing? Is there another thread on opinions?

I like Medina but find myself wavering. I think KBH would be bad for TX and am worried that if Medina and Perry split the conservative vote then KBH will pick up the majority. I think there will be quite a few Dems voting for KBH so I can easily see that happening.

Okay, Texans, are we going to let the miraculous events in Massachusetts be lost on us?

Let’s take a cue from what we can see with our own eyes:
NOW is the time to stand for the courage of our convictions.
NOW is the time to act in faith that change is in the voter’s hands
NOW is the time to replace the politicians with “working, down to earth” citizens who are ready and willing to serve and lead our country.

Don’t falter, people. If you like Medina for governor, let’s make her our Republican candidate. “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”...ya’ll know who said that, right? Let’s roll!

Here’s a thread from the debate timeframe. It may offer a little info for you. I think there are probably some videos either from PBS or C-Span that may show the entire debate and they maybe linked on the thread. I just don’t remember

I really don’t think the dems will cross over that much as they do have several local and statewide races to be concerned with. JMO...

No robo calls from Green. I guess he’s running against Justice Harriet O’Neill.. Looking at his website indicates he has raised just of $50,000 so doesn’t look like he’d be that strong of a candidate. I’m surprised he was robo calling if that’s all the funds he has.
