Michelle Roberts, AP writer writes in her piece San Antonio, restaurants fight fat by cooperating that San Antonio health officials, along with the help of the of our beloved Major Julian Castro, and the San Antonio Restaurant Association have decided to change the way food is consumed in this city.
They are targeting local eateries and encouraging (read: threatening) them to offer healthier meal options, lest the restaurant be faced with future regulations or fines for non-compliance. The argue that the city is "getting heavier" and this is a viable options to combat that. Lest we succumb to the ravages of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm all for healthier options, but as it stands, they are out there already. If I've got an hour for lunch and I want to eat something nutritious, my first instinct is not to go to McDonalds (or for all you Texans Whataburger). Even if I do, for the sake of the argument, most fast food establishments and local eateries have healthier options already soup/salads etc. It's about knowing the facts behind what you eat and the willingness to pass up chips and salsa or the enchilada plate for a salad with light ranch. Either way, that is the choice of the patron not the restaurant or the government...

Yeah, I know. . .weird. Just a stream of consciousness thing.
It’s more than what you eat, it’s what you do.
You can get fat on a diet of carrots, cabbage and skim milk with grilled chicken breast - if all you do is sit on the couch and consume calories.
Now, granted Tex/Mex food is fantastic - but where does personal responibility come into play?
This appears to have been written by someone who is drunker than a Kennedy.
By what reasoning does a municipality have the right to interfere in what people may or may not eat in an otherwise law-abiding restaurant?
If you buy into the evolutionary thing - man’s ability to have sufficient food all year long is a relatively new thing. It used to be that there were seasons of abundance, and then times of near famine. Fat storage was intended to help us get through the times of starvation; hence those with the propensity to store fat had an advantage over those who had less energy stored away.
Now, with food available year around; the only seasonal shortage we have are peppermint shakes after Christmas has passed. However, our bodies still insist on storing the extra calories for the famine that would normally just be a couple months away.
If it’s Tex-Mex, I’d say about half way through dessert.
The hippo and manatee are superior beings! we must join them!
lol.
proofread! I mess up a lot like that sometimes
The Nannies can threaten & cajole restaurants all they want, but I have news for them:
If the menu sucks, then I’m NOT eating there! I don’t go out to eat to have tofu & kelp.
I'd probably lose weight at McDonald's, I'd spend the rest of the day in the bathroom, it is just how their food affects me, so I don't eat there. Lunch is my main meal of the day. I mostly eat deli sandwiches for lunch and a chicken tostada salad once a week (no dressing), but I do go to Whataburger about once a month to splurge (onion rings...yum, yum...). Breakfast is a bean and cheese taco to regulate my blood sugar, loaded with pico de gallo to rev my metabolism. Dinner is very rare and barely a nibble or two. I don't use any sugar or salt, only drink unsweetened tea with the exception of beer in the evening.
Doesn't really matter what I eat, I've practically starved myself and still can't lose the weight I gained from steroid injections for my back and hip, even now that I refuse to take them any more. Other than water aerobics in a heated pool, exercise is out of the question as I am past due for a hip replacement according to my doc, but hubby is unemployed right now and I can't take the time off from work. My boss said if I had to be off 6 - 8 weeks, he'd just go ahead and slit his wrists, LOL!
LOL!
Unless you buy the fatty chips, chips & salsa is pretty darn lean.
