Heart surgeon Dr. Larry Bucshon, the candidate that some 8th District Republican leaders say is the likely GOP challenger to Rep. Brad Ellsworth, is set to announce his candidacy.
Bucshon, 47, will make a noon announcement Monday on the riverfront pavilion in Newburgh and appear Monday night at Princeton High School at a book-signing for former U.S. Rep. John Hostettler, R-Ind.
Bucshon's campaign issued statements supporting him by party chairmen in Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey and Gibson counties.

HEART SURGEON??? You won’t find any in DC
Republicans gave Brad Ellsworth a pass in 2008, partly because he defeated John Hostettler by such a wide margin in 2006, partly because of his independent image. He’ll be tough to beat, but Larry Bucshon is not a token candidate.
**HEART SURGEON??? You wont find any in DC**
Hearts, that is! .. theirs were SOLD years ago.
Remember, ex-Sen. Bill Frist was one. He was fine as a backbencher Senator, but one of the worst GOP Senate leaders ever.
Is he a conservative?
Hostettler was my favorite Rep after Mike Pence, too bad he lost!
I think he’s conservative. We’ll learn more after he announces.
I hate that district. Hostettler could never win easily in it (probably his own fault) nor could previous Republicans (1984 steal) but it has no problem electing and reelecting liberal troll Brad Ellsworth by ridiculous margins.
We need good candidates against Baronet Hill and Joe Donnelley too. They can’t be given passes.
