The Republican field of contenders in the 3rd district U.S. House race became a little bit clearer Monday morning.
State Sen. Jeff Colyer, R-Overland Park, sent out an announcement that he won't run, and he strongly endorsed former state Sen. Nick Jordan, a Shawnee Republican who lost a bid for the seat in 2008 to Rep. Dennis Moore, the Lenexa Democrat who will retire after this term.
“I am grateful for the support and encouragement of so many friends regarding this race. I love public service and enjoy campaigning, but now is not the right time for me to be a congressional candidate,” said Colyer, a surgeon serving his first term in the Kansas Senate. “However, the issues facing America are too important for any of us to sit on the sidelines.
"That’s why I’m proud to endorse Nick Jordan. Nick is experienced, honest and effective. He has the right background and values to succeed. Nick can unite this district and win for the right reasons. He will make an outstanding congressman.”

Jordan seems to be a pretty good candidate, if not a stellar one. He’s a conservative Republican who doesn’t seem to inflame the RINO’s. He served in the state Senate for 12 yeras. There are other others running, as well. The ‘Rats haven’t found a candidate yet, though that should change.
I hope that this is helpful. Republicans in Kansas have a great tradition of flying their victory laps vertically, straight into the ground.
Bleh. Jordan seems too old and his ‘08 performance was decidedly underwhelming. We need someone younger and more dynamic here.
There is state Rep. Pat Colloton, but she’s a certified member of the RINO faction.
FWIW, Steve Rose, our resident moderate Republican newspaper publisher and candidate for the Republican nomination for about a day, has come out for Jordan and believes he's the best candidate. Rose supported Moore over Jordan last time.
On the other hand you’ve got to give Doctor Jeff credit for one thing. His campaign vehicle is a Hummer H2. You’ve gotta love a guy who gives the tree-huggers the middle finger like that.
There was a clip on the news yesterday that Carol Marinovich is ‘considering’ a run for the Democratic nomination for the 3rd district. I’d say you can count her in as the opponent for whoever wins the Republican nod.
Yeah, caught that in a headline yesterday. I see the KS Dems had their latest leading candidate for Governor drop out as well. They can’t seem to catch a break. It reminds me of TN, we’ve had half the Dem field for Governor drop out, and the prior leading contender, State Sen. Roy Herron, is opting to go for John Tanner’s Congressional seat figuring he has a better shot for that (which he does).
There is no way to stop Brownback and they know it. Nobody wants to spend the time and money getting run over by that train.
They can’t seem to catch a break.
I haven't even heard whether Steve Six is running for AG again. If he doesn't then this could be the first time in a long time where we didn't have a Democrat in at least one major state post.
She is a former Mayor of Kansas City. Usually, Democrats need a Johnson County candidate.
She's a pro-business, low tax, moderate Democrat who is about the only person who can hold Moore's Democrat-Independent-Moderate Republican coalition together. In order to keep the seat they'll overlook the Wyandotte County part. Who else do they have that has a chance? Nobody.
Six has a campaign site up. You also forgot Treasurer Dennis McKinney, who was appointed to succeed Lynn Jenkins, so that’s two Dems running in statewide office. At present, there are no GOP challengers listed to run against McKinney.
