Why I'm not a republican
vanity | The Watcher

Posted on 05/15/2010 12:57:52 AM PDT by The Watcher

I watched the video of Gov Christie talking to the reporter and it reminded me why I just can't be in the GOP. Or any party, it seems. I thought I'd post my thoughts on the topic, which I wrote separately in a moment of introspection.

I've never voted for a Democrat, just to be sure... But why can't the GOP be something besides simpering, terrified lapdogs, afraid of their own shadow? Seriously, why can't you grow some...something... and develop at least a minute fraction of the guts of Christie? Why is the RNC so utterly deferential to libs and to the press? I mean, grow a pair. Say "we're stopping this leftward lemming rush over the cliff of destruction, even if it means we fill the house, senate, and every office in DC with protesting Tea Party people and bring this government to a HALT! Either you're serious.... Or you're not. And presently, the GOP is about as unserious as those actors in Hollywood whining about global warming after flying around the world in thier jets.

Can't understand why the Tea Party sprang into being? It's simple, ordinary, non partisan people, have become SO frustrated at the Democrats stupidity, and the utter refusal of the GOP to be anything but terrified lapdogs who do not believe in the Constiution, law, or anything vaguely American. RNC... GROW SOME CONVICTIONS AND FIGHT FOR THE COUNTRY, instead of just playing silly games.

It seems that few people these days want to take the time to say what they really think. Perhaps, they don't want to really think, and just want to "feel" aabout things. Well, that's not me.

When the TEA Party people started their protests, and the protests gained strength, I realized why I identified with them. I have never publicly protested anything. I have never run for office. I would not want it, even if it were offered without the race, because I'm not one who really wants to be confrontational. If I were in office, I would have to be. After all, the mindless stupidity of being ten or twelve or fourteen trillion in debt, or whatever it is this week, is so beyond anything acceptable as "sane" it's no longer a matter of debating the merits of what's being done. It's simply calling "stupid"...Stupid.

Any individual or businessman who ran his affairs this way would be recognized as either a fraud...cheat...or mind bogglingly stupid. But, seemingly no politician can bring himself to say it.

Adding massive new entitlements, hugely economicly disruptive rules, laws, taxes, and regulations, and massive new controls on the marketplace in these times? Again, it's so many light-years from a position called "sane" there's not words to describe it.

Us ordinary people may have never approved. We just somehow, perhaps naively thought that eventually, as it does in every other aspect of our lives, reality would force the bozos who are playing government into rational behavior. But the precise opposite happened. And now, the last vestige of the sane and sensible, the ordinary schmucks, have realized that the inmates are running the country, not just the assylum.

Which brings me back to my original point. There's nothing even slightly radical about believing tens of trillions of debt, along with scores of trillions of redistributive governmental obligations is insanity, just NOT wise or prudent...Or even surviveable.

It's not even slightly insane to think that government should live within the clear, obvious, and, well, very, very plain boundaries of the Constitution. And that cleverly constructed blather to the contrary should simply be ignored as coming from unserious people. Nor is any of this "radical", either. In fact, it's, well, prudent.

So why can't the GOP even try? I mean, seriously. The opposition to Obamacare was so pathetic. Either it was wrong... or it wasn't. If it was wrong, it should have been stopped. And I mean, STOPPED. The left's perfectly willing to blackmail and disrupt, and all they're doing is just being obnoxious until you give them someone else's money so they'll go away... until tomorrow, when they want some more.

Why didn't the GOP open the doors to their offices and to the whole of Congress? Flood the place with protesters and bring the proceedings to a STOP??? And the, negotiated hardball. "Yeah, we'll ask them to leave when you promise in writing to pass OUR bill!".

It's not like we the people are trying to do anything but get the Constitution back in order and the government back into it's boundaries, and sanity restored to our nation's books. No, we're not trying to take over, become tyrants, inflict massive social upheaveal or any other such stuff. No, just plain old fashioned prudence and judgement and respect for our fundamental laws.

If the GOP can't bring itself to fight for that, without shame, without hesitation, without apology or excuse, when what good is it? The other side plays as dishonestly, as deceptively, as violently, as demandingly and plays desperate hardball... TO DEMAND WRONG, COMPROMISE OF THE CONSTITUTION AND THE RULE OF LAW. Why is the GOP so timid about doing the RIGHT ( and defensible in every aspect ) thing, and unwilling to do it with more determination than an overcooked spaghettie noodle?

It's easy to see why the TEA Party is here. It's a last desperate plea from the final and last resort of the sane and sensible. So, when...Or should I ask, WILL, the GOP ever decide to get serious? If not, it serves no useful purpose and might as well not exist. It certainly isn't doing anything worthy now. As my daddy used to say "try" counts nothing, "Do" is all that matters.

I'd like to get an answer from Steele himself. From the "leadership" in Congress that's not leading. How ya suppose I get them to do it?

I just want to give up? That’s the last refuge for a party stooge. When all the facts are against you, attack the speaker. Typical party politics. And you wonder why the GOP can’t win diddly.

Go look in the mirror and see part of the problem.

Your assumption that they are lapdogs is wrong.

The problem is they are fellow progressive socialists all on the same path seeking the same end goal, our enslavement.

But don’t worry most conservative talking bobble heads get this point wrong too.

Keep in mind what I said. This isn’t just about Congress or the Governor’s mansion. It’s about facing down liberalism/socialism where EVER you encounter it. That takes a degree of courage (although not much), and you definitely have to be in-your-face about it.

I’m not afraid to be confrontational one little bit, so I find this easy. If you don’t, then go along with someone or a few others who do. Just DO it.

And now, the last vestige of the sane and sensible, the ordinary schmucks, have realized that the inmates are running the country, not just the asylum.

This is where you error my friend, The “sane and sensible” are a different class of
people than the “ordinary schmucks”. The “ordinary schmucks” are the reason we
are in the condition we are in, the “ordinary schmucks” are the ones who cast their
ill conceived votes for Obama and the Congress we currently have. Nary a single
“sane and sensible” person voted for the mess we have.

The “ordinary schmucks” greatly out number the “sane and sensible” in this country
so we can look forward to this mess being repeated over and over again until the
twelfth of never, and that’s a long, long time.

Why is the GOP so timid about doing the RIGHT ….

Because they are all corrupt career politicians following the code of POLITICAL
CORRECTNESS.

And now I will tell you true – until we replace all career politicians in our
government with ordinary “sane and sensible” non political people the mess
will continue. Until we take the politics out of our government the mess will
continue.

America is currently on the second leg of its three legged journey.
The first leg was completed when we drove the American Indians into dust.
The second and current leg is the self destruction by moral decay and political
correctness.
The third leg (coming soon) is when the Muslims drive the Christians into dust.

Find a candidate you can believe.
One.
Candidate.
If you dont like some of the GOP offerings, fine, dont help them. but find ONE CANDIDATE you can believe in and support, maybe the great candidate Sean Duffy who was running up against Obey before he retired. May John Dennis, going up against Pelosi. Or Bill Flores who will unseat the blue-dog-lyin-sack Chet Edwards. Or Tim Burns. Or Marco Rubio. Or Chuck DeVore. THE LIST GOES ON. ... AND SUPPORT HIM OR HER.
If you cant find a SINGLE candidate out of the hundreds of Republicans that you agree with and can support, then RUN YOURSELF.

If you cant do ANY of that ... then quit whining ... like I said - Lead, follow, or get the heck out of the way.

Freedom is on the line, and I dont recall the history books telling us that the Revolutionary War was won by a guy who sat on his ass at a tavern complaining about what a lousy general George Washington was.

LOOK AROUND - have you actually spoken to most not-so-informed people. Like you, they have abosrbed various anti-GOP attitudes, thanks to an anti-GOP mainstream media, doing the bidding of the leftwing Democrats to keep people unhappy enough with the GOP in order to keep the socialists in power. here’s the problem - like it or not, You ARE the GOP.

YOU ARE THE CONSERVATIVE BASE IN AMERICA. If you do nothing, America goes socialist. If you do the rigth thing, America doesnt.

You dont get it wrt this whole GOP blame-game. The GOP lost in November 2008. they got fired by people like you already - now that bed has been made, giving the Democrats the power to socialize industries left and right. The powers-that-be are Big Government liberals. There is no ‘parlor game’ in DC, there is the plain simple fact that Democrats have all the power and have the media on their side. The GOP is left with figuring how to minimize losses.

All this “THEY should do” X, Y or Z is pathetic. As if GOP leaders have a magic wand to overcome media bias, or change realities of who has power in DC, and millions of apathetic voters will somehow wake up at tap of some heels. You frankly sound like you have absorbed the same selfish, lack-of-responsibility Im-a-victim mentality of the liberals.
Blaming the GOP for this leviation is like blaming the towel boy for losing a superbowl.

The question is: WHAT WILL YOU DO ABOUT IT? if you wont get off your duff to help save the country, WHO WILL?

“They should be SPONSORING the largest and most civil disobedient rallies the nation has ever seen, WE MUST PRESERVE THE UNION.”

Great idea! I guess you missed that rally of a million people last September in DC. Multiple rallies organized by different conservative groups, and the GOP. Want another? ORGANIZE IT YOURSELF... and don’t blame others for not doing something that ahs been done and that YOU CAN DO too. Because if you dont do it, WHO WILL?

“Yes, the GOP gained enough spine to not vote with the Democrats on ONE issue. And immediately backslid”

I call BS on this. Not a single GOP member of Congress has been for Obamacare, and now 20 states are suing to stop it, led by GOP leaders at the state level.

“and has myriad members supporting cap and trade”
Myriad? How about “hardly any and the few who did are wriggling out so the real number now is ZERO.

And so it goes. You are bound and determined to IGNORE each and every instance of the GOP doing the right thing, ignore it and whine igorantly about them not doing the right thing.

If you want to continue to lose power and lose this country to the socialists, go on whining. It’s pointless and stupid, but people do it because it is easier that actually fixing the problem. If you want to actually do something POSITIVE, here is the game-plan:
1. help conservatives win primaries
2. help conservatives win in November
3. after elections, keep their feet to the fire to do the right thing

And yes, Gov Ghristie IS doing the right thing. He has already stood up to unions, teacher’s unions, govt bureaucrats, the leftist activists, the legal liberals, and a few others. He’s getting his job done. Find more like him to support.

That’s it - LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY.

“So we can give the GOP leadership an army to retreat with? “

More ignorant twaddle - NO! ... find new leadership, if you dont like the old one, by getting better candidates in primaries.

Name the top 3 agenda items you want to see in a candidate for office, and name the top 3 characteristics they should have as officeholders.

What are they?

So, you want someone else to do it for you? You feel that the mess we find ourselves in will be rectified without confrontation? This isn't just about the RNC or Tea Partiers or any other group. This is all about US; those of us who consider ourselves American citizens. WE have to stand up and be heard; WE have to confront power grabs and idiocy and political correctness and destruction of our society wherever we encounter it: the local school, the local school board, your town or city council, your State legislature, etc., etc. Let me suggest that it isn't just the RNC that needs to "grow a set".

So well said, much better than I and in fewer words too. Who will save America? Go look in the mirror. "If not us, who? If not now, when?" - Ronald Reagan

Liberal media observers profess to find "Teabaggers" angry and they find that anger to be off-putting...

This was the only line that stood out for me, incongruent with the rest. The rest was very well reasoned.

LMO do not find anger off-putting...they are always clucking approvingly at the rage-du-jour on the left. No, just as with everything else, it is suspect only because it comes from the right.

“On a National level (Federal Government) and not State?”

Conservative Republicans stopped amnesty. And that’s bad?
Or you are blaming 100% of Republicans for the fact that 7 RINO Republican Senators - INCLUDING THE JUST-FIRED BOB BENNETT OF UTAH - sold out and worked with Democrats to try amnesty? So you tar the whole party with what a small portion of the party is doing.

“Do you really believe the GOP is going to do something. LMAO!”

LMAO yourself - the GOP House *DID* pass a bill last session they had a majority:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_Protection,_Anti-terrorism,_and_Illegal_Immigration_Control_Act_of_2005

The Border Protection, Anti-terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005 (H.R. 4437) was a bill in the 109th United States Congress. It was passed by the United States House of Representatives on December 16, 2005 by a vote of 239 to 182 (with 92% of Republicans supporting, 82% of Democrats opposing), but did not pass the Senate. It was also known as the “Sensenbrenner Bill,” for its sponsor in the House of Representatives, Wisconsin Republican Jim Sensenbrenner. The bill was the catalyst for the 2006 U.S. immigration reform protests and was the first piece of legislation passed by a house of Congress in the United States illegal immigration debate.

The bill as passed by the House of Representatives contains the following provisions, among others: [1] [2]

* Requires up to 700 miles (1120 km) of fence along the US-Mexican border at points with the highest number of illegal border crossings. (House Amendment 648, authored by Duncan Hunter (R-CA52)
* Requires the federal government to take custody of illegal aliens detained by local authorities. This would end the practice of “catch and release”, where federal officials sometimes instruct local law enforcement to release detained illegal aliens because resources to prosecute them are not available. It also reimburses local agencies in the 29 counties along the border for costs related to detaining illegal aliens. (Section 607)
* Mandates employers to verify workers’ legal status through electronic means, phased in over several years. Also requires reports to be sent to Congress one and two years after implementation to ensure that it is being used. (Title VII)
* Eliminates the Diversity Immigrant Visa (also known as Green Card Lottery) program. (House Amendment 650, authored by Bob Goodlatte)
* Prohibits grants to federal, state, or local government agencies that enact or maintain a sanctuary city policy. (House Amendment 659, authored by Thomas Tancredo) (withdrawn 12/16/2005 by unanimous consent)
* Incorporates satellite communications among immigration enforcement officials. (House Amendment 638, authored by John Carter)
* Requires all United States Border Patrol uniforms to be made in the U.S. to avoid forgeries. (House Amendment 641, authored by Rick Renzi)
* Institutes a timeline for deployment of US-VISIT to all land-based checkpoints. (House Amendment 642, authored by Michael N. Castle)
* Requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to report to Congress on the number of Other Than Mexicans (OTMs) apprehended and deported and the number of those from states that sponsor terrorism. (Section 401)
* Formalizes Congressional condemnation of rapes by smugglers along the border and urges Mexico to take immediate action to prevent them. (House Amendment 647, authored by Ginny Brown-Waite)
* Requires all illegal aliens, before being deported, to pay a fine of $3,000 if they agree to leave voluntarily but do not adhere to the terms of their agreement. The grace period for voluntary departure is shortened to 60 days.
* Requires DHS to conduct a study on the potential for border fencing on the US-Canada border.
* Sets the minimum sentence for fraudulent documents at 10 years, fines, or both, with tougher sentencing in cases of aiding drug trafficking and terrorism.
* Establishes a Fraudulent Documents Center within DHS.
* Increases penalties for aggravated felonies and various frauds, including marriage fraud and document fraud.
* Establishes an 18-month deadline for DHS to control the border, with a progress report due one year after enactment of the legislation.
* Requires criminal record, terrorist watch list clearance, and fraudulent document checks for any illegal immigrant before being granted legal immigration status.
* Reimburses states for aiding in immigration enforcement.
* Causes housing of a removed alien to become a felony and sets the minimum prison sentence to three years.
* Allows deportation of any illegal alien convicted of driving under the influence (DUI).
* Adds human trafficking and human smuggling to the money-laundering statute.
* Increases penalties for employing illegal workers to $7,500 for first time offenses, $15,000 for second offenses, and $40,000 for all subsequent offenses.
* Prohibits accepting immigrants from any country which delays or refuses to accept its citizens who are deported from the United States (Section 404)

ALL THAT ... supported by 90% of Republicans, opposed by 80% of Democrats.

“Obama is not afraid of the GOP at all.”
As long as Obama can keep the conservatives divided and dispirited by undermining our unity and focus, he’s okay.

Disgruntled conservatives unwilling to help Republicans win are Obama’s best friends right now.

“I don’t WANT power, because with it comes responsibility. “

OK, so you are self-admitting a lack of responsibility.

Then you might temper your criticism of those who HAVE stepped up to take the responsibility, by considering that THEY too are just human, fallible, and can only do what they can do.

“IF I were to be in office, then I would have a sacred obligation to not just be a little confrontational - a la Gov Christie and some shmuck reporter - but to be the toughest, meanest, most devious, determined and unflagging General there ever was.”

And if such selfless super-humans dont exist - but merely human conservative Patriots willing to serve in office who dont measure up to your super-human standard ... then what? you toss them aside blithely ... leaving only socialist thugs to rule over us?

Yeah the same Republican party that voted to have its convention in Tampa in August, and bypass.... Arizona...LMAO!

First, you should know better than to source WIKIPEDIA. Look up what WIKI means? I’ll save you the time. It means edit and anyone can do it. Second, why give me a bill that did not pass? It’s pointless! Third, where is that fence? Fourth, illegal immigration is completely out of control, and everyone knows the Federal government is not doing jack $hit. Thus, why Arizona is in the news.

I will ask you again. What federal government agency will the Republicans abolish? How many times are you going to get tricked by the Republican party? Prior to Obama, Bush and the Republicans had grown government the biggest and fastest in the entire history of our country. Oh and they left a 1 Trillion dollar deficit. I’m sorry I don’t how you can still support that type of crap. Sorry I want new party. Not more B.S.!

“Second, why give me a bill that did not pass? It’s pointless!”
It passed the GOP House. That was a significant accomplishment, and it showed clearly most REPUBLICANS ARE FOR REFORM that MOST OF THE DEMOCRATS REFUSE TO BE FOR ANY SEMBLANCE OF REAL ENFORCEMENT OF LAW TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

“Fourth, illegal immigration is completely out of control, and everyone knows the Federal government is not doing jack $hit.”
Yeah, and Obama is President. and Janet Nappy is in charge of it all. Arrests, actions and other ICE enforcement is way DOWN from what was done under Bush in 2008. So what’s new?

” Thus, why Arizona is in the news.”
Because Republicans do something about it, get a lot of heat, and then idiot disgruntled Republicans - RATHER THAN DEFENDING THE GOOD WORK REPUBLICANS ARE DOING - take potshots at them, watch while the media roasts them alive, WITHOUT COMING TO THEIR AID ...

It’s pretty rotten of folks - AFTER Gov Brewer and other Republicans were slandered by the President as ‘racists’ - to say, after the strong and principled stand of these Republicans, to say: “Where are the Republicans with courage?”

“What federal government agency will the Republicans abolish?”

We have most Congressional Republicans saying repeal Obamacare, end TARP and bailouts, and stop the spending.

What agencies will YOU abolish if you were in Congress?
How will YOU get 219 votes and 51 votes to make it happen?

“Prior to Obama, Bush and the Republicans had grown government the biggest and fastest in the entire history of our country. Oh and they left a 1 Trillion dollar deficit.”
FALSE! That number is Obama talking point BS. the last GOP budget was 2006 - before nancy pelosi and the Democrats took control of Congress. The deficit was under $250 billion. Every year the Democrats have had Congress, the spending went up by double-digits.

” I’m sorry I don’t how you can still support that type of crap.” - That $1 trillion deficit was crap that nancy pelosi and the Democrats enacted. How can you support the Democrats by spouting their BS talking points, BLAMIING A DEMOCRAT BUDGET ON REPUBLICANS?

” Sorry I want new party.”
YOU GOT IT - DEMOCRATS RUNNING EVERYTHING.
How’s that hope and change working out for you?

LOL! Rest assure I did not vote for Obama. I reluctantly voted for McCain. Yes he was the less of the two evils.

You have some valid points, but just keep this in mind. The Republicans are not the party of small government. They may have slowed it down in a few instances, but they have not reversed it.

I appreciate your passion, but respectfully disagree. BTW, some of your facts are off or not logical. However, I am not going to waste my time with it.

OK ... but I am curious, you didnt answer the question:
What agencies will YOU abolish if you were in Congress?

What ‘small Government’ do you propose?

Not a rhetorical question.

The reality is that policies that will get politicians thrown out of office quickly just dont happen much, and when they do (like Obamacare) they tend to be mistakes. I mention this because it is easy to say ‘cut this or that’, the real trick is building a majority support for it.
