Dems pursued a procedural tack that required two thirds of the House to prevail, enabling Republicans to defeat it, and obviously opposing this bill was a morally questionable thing to do. But I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Weiner's rant doesn't do anyone any good -- least of all Dems. Republicans want Dems to respond this way -- to fulminate and rant about procedure and about their inability to pass legislation, even though they enjoy comfortable majorities.

Just watched it for the first time. He got married to Huma, right? HMMM...guess not getting any sex is getting to him! :)
He’s not told the whole story either of course. They had the votes to pass the bill. They needed 218 and had 255 but the House leadership changed the rules so they’d need 290 votes.
Sounds like sabotage to me...then they blame Repubs and their slaves in the MSM will carry the water for them.
Weiner intentionally inserted a poison pill in his bill so that he could rant. I am not sure that is a winning strategy in today’s political climate. The right wing, at least, is not that stupid.

Folks, Antony Weiner is a very, very smart guy, and therefore he has been one of the really dangerous House Rats. It’s extremely unusual to see this guy lose his cool like this, and despite this performance, Weiner is no sideshow clown like Alan Grayson.
I’m wondering if Wiener’s internal polling is showing he might lose against Bob Turner, the unknown upstart who’s taking on six-term Weiner even though Wiener has not had an effective opponent in years.
Republicans didn’t defeat the bill. The democrats did. They wanted to vote on it without any amendments and couldn’t whip up enough votes from their own party. The dems shut the republicans out of the process and then blame them when their legislation fails to pass.
The incumbent in the other winnable NYC district just put out a list of ‘Jewish contributors’ to his likely GOP opponent. Not too smart.

Democrats want Republican votes to cya their spending. Despite Weiner’s smokes screen, the two thirds rule syands out as trickery.
Not to mention, Democrats tack 9/11 on spending bills to hide the graft within.
That would be Michael MacMahon, who represents the distict (mostly Staten Island) formerly held by Vito Fossella - and before that, Guy Molinari followed by Susan Molinari. I heard MacMahon is blaming it on an aide whom he's fired.
