ODonnells victory in Delaware is already being credited to Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Movement, but more credit probably goes to a backlash against a GOP that provided a coronation to a liberal_Republican and used vicious and hate-filled tactics against his opponents, that doubtlessly reminded many Republicans of the tactics Democrats were using against Sarah Palin.
I would much rather have had Hayworth knock out McCain, than have ODonnell knock out Mike Castle. That would have removed one of the Senates biggest liberal Republicans, and would have probably given his obnoxious daughter the boot out of the spotlight too. Hayworth was also a much stronger candidate in the general election than ODonnell will be. But that isnt the point. The Republican party cant just do what we were doing before, which is exactly what will happen if the Senate Republicans backing Castle had gotten their way. Whether ODonnell wins and loses, the Battle of Delaware was another strong warning that business as usual cannot go on.
The Delaware primary was ugly, in-state and on the internet. But had the Delaware GOP not backed Castle at all costs, and had Castles defenders online actually made an honest case for him (count the number of times that pieces like that mentioned the words Cap and Trade) without treating ODonnell the way the media had treated Palin, as a crazy laughable nut with ethical problem who isnt worth mentioning except to make sexist jokes about her, the backlash might never have happened. This was Anti-Insideritis in a big way.
But Castle and his GOP backers couldnt debate on the issues. The Tea Party had them running scared. So instead they conducted vicious personal attacks against ODonnell, with their only argument being electability. But the Tea Party turnout was not about party loyalty...

Somebody needs to tell Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer.
Somebody needs to tell Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer.
"And filled with a terrible resolve". Rove, Krauthammer, et al don't believe it. Much of the Japanese high command didn't believe it either.
The Tea Party is people being tired of being taken advantage of by those elected to “serve”. Them and their insane government programs...mosque rebuilding - teaching Africans to wash their genitals...$2M per job stimulus....one thing after another, they have ruined our country while we have taken it. No More!
Bastards..they think they are royalty when most of them couldn’t make it in the real world if their lives depended on it.

Exactly!
Really? I don't know O'Donnell all that well, but several anti-RINOs are giving her credit as a conservative.
Let's put this candidate's electability in perspective. The Rats have Maxine Waters, Barney Fwank, Al Franken, that bloated jack ass in FL, and so on. And the pundits are labeling O'Donnell as unelectable...???!!! Give me a friggin BREAK!
Mr. Obama is nowhere near as qualified as anyone that you mentioned, yet he somehow took the top spot. Anyone is electable under the right conditions.
“I would much rather have had Hayworth knock out McCain, than have O’Donnell knock out Mike Castle... snip... Hayworth was also a much stronger candidate in the general election than O’Donnell will be.”
Why do people say this and still believe they have any attachment to reality.
O’Donnell beat Castle handily, while Hayworth got demolished by McCain. O’Donnell is a much better campaigner than Hayworth.
If you switched their places, I guarantee you that O’Donnell would have gotten closer to McCain and Hayworth would have lost to Castle.
Of course Hayworth is more likely to do better in the general, only because Arizona much more conservative than Delaware.
But Hayworth is not a better candidate than O’Donnell.
I'll bet the bankers jobs they rescued cost us a lot more than $2M per of TARP money.
