Palin has earned the right to run for president
The Politico ^ | December 2, 2010 | Grover Norquist and Christopher Barron

To the dismay of all but hard-core political junkies, the endless campaign is a reality of modern politics. With some midterm races still unresolved, voters’ attention is already turned to 2012. And no potential presidential candidate now garners more attention than former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Love her or hate her, admire her or fear her, respect her or ridicule her, it seems no one in the chattering class is without an opinion on Palin. Virtually every part of her life is dissected — sometimes by her own choice. Each word is scrutinized, and each misstep — no matter how small — is treated as breaking news.

Palin has made clear that she is thinking about running for president. Everyone, from pundits to former first ladies, has weighed in on what she should do. Many urge her not to run.

But if she decides to, Republicans of all stripes should applaud her decision. This isn’t an endorsement of her candidacy. It is, however, an endorsement of her right to participate in the process.

If we want a GOP nominee prepared for the rough-and-tumble of the general election, then we need a rigorous primary. To ensure we nominate the best our party has to offer, we need as many of our leaders as are willing to throw their hats in the ring. If we want to guarantee that our standard-bearer reflects Republican values and priorities, then we need a diverse field to choose from.

The presidential primary process isn’t a coronation — even when it’s expected to be. Just ask Hillary Clinton. The Republican Party has a proud history of competitive races....

lol

Reagan quit his job
Bush quit his job
Dole quit his job
Clinton quit his job
Hillary quit her job
Biden quit his job

But it's only an issue when Palin quits.

ROFL

You are grasping at straws. Palin has been running for 2012 since 2008, and politicians quit to run for higher office all the time. You will have to come up with another talking point to try and derail her.

If you think that is a reality show... you are pretty short sighted, because what it really is, is a 10 hour political infomercial.

Yeah. Half reality show, half Sham Wow.

Great. I feel lots better now.

“And if you vote right now, we will throw in a DVD of Sarah camping with Kate Gosselin. But that’s not all. Be one of the first 100 voters you will receive a Dancing With The Stars coffee mug autographed by Bristol Palin and Justin Beber.”

Mitt quit serving as guv of MA after two years—and that is his ONLY experience in government.

Unfortunately, he didn’t step down, he just mostly campaigned and raised money out of state during his last two years holding the title of governor.

If you’re going to attempt to be clever and insulting, at least get the names correct. It’s Bieber not Beber. I’m going to go sit in a corner now and punish myself for actually knowing that.

Sarah Palin resigned, implicitly, when she accepted McCain’s request that she run for national office.

Sarah Palin resigned, implicitly, when she accepted McCain’s request that she run for national office. The explicit resignation followed naturally
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
In a ‘perfect world’ the seated ‘whatever’ would resign his post when he ‘threw his hat in the ring’ so his electors would be properly represented while he/she is galavanting around the country seeking election to higher office.

In reality that is probably impractical BUT at the least, once the nomination is secured the person should resign, if, for no other reason, to give full time and attention to his next endeavor.

I like to put it in plainer terms. If one is running for a higher office aren’t you showing little or NO confidence in yourself it you hold onto your old job?

Any person who meets the constitutional requirements has the “right” to run for office.

(Even though some who do not, run and win anyway.) ;-)

I don't believe anyone has to "earn the right" to run for the office of President of the US.

There are, however, certain Constitutional requirements that one must meet in order to hold the office.

As near as I know, there are only three.
1. You must have lived in the US for the last 14 years.
2. You must have attained the age of 35, and

3. You must be a US NATURAL BORN CITIZEN!!!

I believe Ms. Palin meets all 3 requirements.

Sarah, if you would, Please Run. This nation is falling apart. Our best chance may be the perspective of a woman who loves God, and Family. A Lady who loves the People, who loves Life, who loves and would uphold America's Constitution. This nation is being ruined by Zero and our bank accounts, and wallets have Zero in them, as Zero tries to take away what little, We the People, have left via America's Constitution. Sarah, for the sake of, and the survival of, talk with God, ask for His help, and run for American citizen's sake. Ask God to go with you, as I know you will. If you need me, and you will not for you will have God, yet I will go too, and I do not have to be asked. RUN SARAH, for the sake of our nation, RUN.

Love her or hate her, admire her or fear her, respect her or ridicule her

Well, I don't love her. I don't hate her. I don't fear her. I also don't admire or respect her, because of her stated policy positions on life, the appropriate balance of powers in our constitutional form of government, or the protection of our national sovereignty and security. But, I don't ridicule her. I simply won't support her for public office.

yep, four more year of someone other than Sarah. Go Zero. do I really need to place a /s? I agree, anyone other than Zero would be better. I believe this is your point. Sarah is outside the ‘good ole boys club’. Sarah is one of us. I would like to have one of us....my personal opinion. Sarah hunts, fishes, has served the People of Alaska. I request Sarah now serve for our nation. America needs her. I do not believe I can be wrong about her. I have prayed and I see her as America’s Iron Lady. It is time for a lady’s perspective. The men have done so well, have they not?

I will give one man some credit...I Miss President Reagan. I did not mean to offend you. I also don't admire or respect her, (you typed) set my last nerve off, and over the edge. This is where I responded. I admire and respect many who are of the feminine gender. Men, do sometimes do things correctly too though. Zero hasn't, nor Mitt, nor Huck.

you laugh, but I think it's brilliant.

She gets a chance to reintroduce herself to the American people, and gets paid for doing it.

How many times during a campaign have you heard a candidates handlers say... if only people knew “the real” _______ they would love them.

This is Palins way of letting people get to know her and her family, a way for people to connect with them on a very personal level. Palin doesn't have to pretend to be the common man... she IS the common man! (or woman as the case may be) She is the only genuine person in politics, the rest are just a bunch of posers with rolled up sleeves, and plaid work shirts.

Palin is playing this brilliantly, while Obama continues to seem out of touch, with his nose sticking up in the air like Mussolini while jetting around on vacation after vacation... Palin is giving us a peak into her very “normal” life. Believe it or not this will appeal to MANY voters, especially disaffected white blue color democrats (aka Reagan Democrats)

No offense. It’s just that when it comes to Palin a whole lot of folks seem to hear what it is they want to hear.
