Quite honestly I never paid any attention to the symbols used until today.
When Palin’s ads came out I doubt anyone assumed that the ad meant surveyor targets. No one. That wouldn’t even make sense in the context.
IMO the current spin is merely an attempt to distance themselves from the shootings and I don’t blame them.
Regarding your demeaning tone, I could say that anyone that thinks that anyone without vast experience with telescopic sights also has a lack of experience with guns is a fool but I won’t. Let me remind you that there are two or three firearms out there that do not require telescopic sights. Two or three. Maybe more. What do you think?
Another liberal who is scared of the people he is supposed to represent and seeks to find ways to imprison them.
You are right, no one assumed they were map symbols, I and anyone who understands maps, certainly knew they were map symbols, not targets. And, being on a map, they fit the context exactly. I didn't have to assume anything. And, it made perfect sense.

There are may guns without telescopic sights. I am fully aware of this fact. OTOH, I don't know anyone who is familiar with guns who doesn't know what the sight picture in a telescopic sight looks like--no mater if he doesn't own a single such sight.
I hunt, meaning that I actually get up off my duff and stalk game, rather than sitting in a stand with a cooler of beer. I have walked over 15 miles per day through terrain you would think impassable, navigating by map, compass and GPS. My friends hunt. We all read maps and recognize map symbols.
You might not think that is a lot of miles, but throw in a 3 thousand feet of elevation change and it is not a walk in the park. The fact that you don't recognize map symbols, but confuse them with telescopic sight pictures, tells me a world of information. There is nothing wrong with this, all it takes to correct it is a bit of education.
But, when you look at a map, see map symbols, assume they are telescopic sight pictures, and then insist that the entire world sees them this way you are exhibiting arrogance. Despite what you would like to think, the entire world is not as ignorant as you. And, one thing I know for certain is that Sarah Palin knows the difference between map symbols and telescopic sight pictures.
Good point. Kids drawing circles are bad enough but we also need to be concerned with all those terrorist training classes camouflaged a "Geometry" and "Trigonometry" classes!
Just wait.
I fear there will be all sorts of bans next week. And the GOP will just follow along.
Lazlo,
Way Western Port St. Lucie here.
I am in an area of western St. Lucie that is a gerrymandered district for Alcee Hastings.
Impeached as a federal judge for taking bribes in drug cases.
They include Rivera Beach Indiantown and Fort Pierce with a very narrow corridor connecting these.
Got to insure a black in the spot you know.
It tells you jack squat. You may ASSUME that you know a world of information, but all you are doing is assuming.
I think I saw one Palin ad in passing and obviously didn't pay much attention to it, couldn't even describe it. I don't think that at a glance it is unreasonable to make the assumption it was a scope sight instead of a map symbol. Not many people put map symbols on people as targets. and if iw was so obviously clear to EVERYONE then there'd be no need for explaination on part of the Palin group.
Fifteen miles in extremely thick countryside while travesing 3000 foot elevation changes?
LOL, yeah, ok. Whatever. Both ways, barefoot, and in chest-deep snow too?
