McCain Reaches Out: Can John return to his old bipartisan self? (Obama "a patriot")
Slate ^ | January 14, 2011 | John Dickerson

Posted on 01/14/2011 7:26:41 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

John McCain has extended a hand to his old rival. Writing in the pages of the Washington Post, McCain praises President Obama for his remarks at the Tucson memorial on Wednesday and makes his own commitment to not let his passion get the best of him. He also bears witness. Referring to the president, McCain writes: "He is a patriot sincerely intent on using his time in office to advance our country's cause. I reject accusations that his policies and beliefs make him unworthy to lead America or opposed to its founding ideals."

McCain also defends Sarah Palin, though he never mentions her name. Using the same call to empathy and the golden rule that Obama invoked in his speech in Tucson, McCain asks that those who criticized Palin and other conservatives to put themselves in her shoes:

How it must feel to have watched one week ago the incomprehensible massacre of innocents committed by someone who had lost some essential part of his humanity, to have shared in the heartache for its victims and in the admiration for those who acted heroically to save the lives of others—and to have heard in the coverage of that tragedy voices accusing you of complicity in it. It does not ask too much of human nature to have the empathy to understand how wrong an injury that is or appreciate how strong a need someone would feel to defend him or herself against such a slur.

It is a more artful defense of Palin than the former Alaska governor mounted for herself.....

Now I'm glad he didn't win the presidency, no matter how bad Mr. Obama has been for us. Better to be stabbed in the front than the back.

The man is a simpleton. One wonders why the people of Arizona continue to put him in the Senate.

Nice swipe at Gov. Sarah Palin while she’s down and being kicked in the face. Or did you mean something else? Tell me, if someone extended an offer to you to very possibly become the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, would you turn around and backstab them a year or two later?

He was 8th from the bottom of his class at Naval Academy. He wouldn’t have even gotten in if it hadn’t been for who his father and grandfather were. His entire military career consisted of crashing airplanes. Why does anybody give a rat’s ass what this loser has to say about anything?

where was all this introspection, national mourning and the lowering of flags after Ft Hood, or the Virginia Tech murders, or when our soldiers come home in flag draped caskets? Is it because a Congress person was caught up in the shootings? is it peculiar that it’s only when one of their own—one of our elected elites—is personally involved that the nation must bow its head in a moment of introspective silence, honor the heroes and mourn the loss of innocent victims?

Juan McCain is a total @$$.

Obama’s “performance” in Arizona was a deft work of mass national propaganda straight from a textbook. Goebbels has NOTHING on this guy!

He deftly manipulated the event and public opinion in such as way as to shield himself personally from anti-Second Amendment rhetoric and anti-First Amendment rhetoric while allowing his acolytes in the mainstream drive by media to run interference for him on these topics, shameless promoting their traditional anti-Constitutional agenda.

At the same time, he shamelessly exploited a national tragedy by transforming his “memorial appearance” into a bald-faced, self-serving public relations event by scheduling it on a college campus in a Democrat County.

Sadly, Obama can out-think Juan McCain with three quarters of Obama’s brain tied behind his back.

I hope and pray we can get a GOP candidate on the ballot in two years who can out-think this fiend Obama.

No wonder McCain lost two years ago.

You addled old man.

Specifically, what qualifies him as a patriot. What exactly has he done as a patriot.

“...sincerely intent on using his time in office to advance our country’s cause” ???

Really? By bowing, curtsying and kissing ring fingers?

He is the worst salesman on the planet. In fact, he couldn’t close a closet door.

What has he brought the United States?

What advances have other countries made at our expense?

What policies has he initiated against the majority will of the United States citizenry? Will they stand?

Doubt it.

There is right now an excellent plan to destroy Obamacare, his czarina’s and just a few departments within the government.

Think he will run again in 2012? Not before he opens his entire records detailing his life and shows us at least two birth certificates.

One he found among his mother’s belongings in 1995 and one from the State of Hawaii.

Just who exactly paid for his college education?

Did he gain entrance as a U.S., a Kenyan, an Indonesian or a British citizen?

On what passport did he travel the world in the 80’s?

Under what name?

There are quite a few other questions but he will never make it on the campaign trail without answering those to start with.

We had someone who can out-think Obama on the ballot the last go-round. Unfortunately, she was on the bottom of the ticket.
