Palin Inches Toward 2012 in Iowa, Nevada
The New York Times' The Caucus ^ | January 20, 2011 | Michael D. Shear

Sarah Palin may be inching toward a presidential run in 2012 as she heads next week to Nevada for two speeches and her advisers quietly begin talking to Republican activists in Iowa.

Both states will be key to winning the Republican nomination, and Ms. Palin’s advisers are determined to do the groundwork necessary should she decide to jump into the campaign.

The informal conversations in Iowa, reported by the Web site Real Clear Politics, are the first baby steps in what would have to become a much more elaborate turnout effort if Ms. Palin, the former Alaska governor, decides to run.

And her speeches in Nevada to two outdoors groups — including one on the same night that President Obama delivers his State of the Union speech in Washington — give her a platform to talk about hunting and guns in the wake of the shootings in Arizona this month.

“There are a lot of Republican activists who want the governor to run and want to get involved and want to help,” said Tim Crawford, the treasurer of Ms. Palin’s political action committee, SarahPAC.

Mr. Crawford said the conversations were “part of a process of gathering input, guidance and advice” in Iowa and were not unlike the kinds of conversations that any potential candidate might have at this stage in the process.

“There are people that want to support her and want to work for her,” he said. “There are a lot of them in Iowa.”

Other potential Republican candidates are moving slowly in Iowa as well. Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, has spent relatively little time in the state during the last two years — a dramatic shift from his 2007 strategy of trying to win Iowa with an early barrage of money and time....

I love Sarah but I think if she runs in ‘12 it will just guarantee 4 more years of ZERO.

The savaging she would get would make everything she’s been through before seem like a cake walk.

Let me play devil’s advocate:

Of the remaining three wise men who do you think would be LESS SAVAGED by the MSM, come out of it smelling like roses, and to boot beat Obama.

Do you remember in 2008 how McCain was touted as the GOP candidate the MSM most favored and would treat him with respect and give him an even break? How did that work out?

She hasn’t already been “savaged” more than any politician or public figure in recent memory? Barack Obama, his “lovely” wife, Mel Gibson, Michael Vick, Dubya, Lindsay Lohan and President Reagan together never got 10% of the vile abuse she gets in a month!

Name me one Republican that will not be demonized once the nomination is clinched?

Yes they will dump praise on Huck and anybody but Sarah until the primary is sown up, then they will trash and demonize who ever is the nominee

“The savaging she would get would make everything she’s been through before seem like a cake walk.”

Sir, you seem to be suggesting that the right can no longer field the candidate of “it’s choice” in a presidential election UNLESS AND UNTIL the left, led by it’s msm partner, will approve the right’s candidate by not being mean to him/her?

If that is what you believe and are suggesting, please be advised I have some wetlands down here in Texas I need to sell!

Sarah, Todd and their family have more steel in their spine than all of us in the lower 48 put together! Her courage in the face of this onslaught is inspiring to me!

It is astounding you don’t see the fact that what Palin has gone through is waiting for any other potential nominee. Palin is their great fear because she will not shut up and back down. She is a threat to expose the media and Obama Demonrat machine. They know it and can’t handle the thought of her even entering the race. She needs to run because she will do tremendous damage to them with the people that will hear her unfiltered. Watch the panic when she enters the race and how it’s always been there in these attempts to claim she is polarizing and a non factor with the public. She will go where no one else will go and will call them on it.

__________

YAWN....

How many times do we have to hear this “reasoning”?

Should we let the media decide who the GOP should nominate?

How many LIBERAL journalists, operatives and hacks are telling us Sarah can’t win? Do you think they’re trying to help us?

Could George Bush had been ANY MORE SAVAGED in 2004???

ANY GOP nominee will be savaged. Might as well go with the conservative.

ANY GOP nominee will be savaged.

One strong mark in Sarah Palin's favor is that she has suffered this savaging and refuses to back down. She's been through the crucible already, so we don't have to worry about how she'll deal with the inevitable attacks from the leftist media.

The other supposed "front-runners" (Romney, Huckabee, Pwalenty, etc.) have absolutely no experience with what will be unloaded on them should they gain the nomination. Maybe Gingrich, but he's unacceptable for other reasons.
