Both Parties Welcome Prospect Of Palin National HQ In Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Politicians from both parties are buzzing about the prospect of Sarah Palin choosing Scottsdale to headquarter her 2012 presidential campaign.

Politco.com and other online sites are reporting Palin plans to run for president, and will launch her campaign from Scottsdale.

"I just recently heard the buzz," state Republican Party Chairman Tom Morrissey said.

"There's all sorts of rumors floating around," state Democratic Party Chairman Andrei Cherny responded.

Political analyst Jamie Molera cited several reasons to give the rumor credit.

"I don't think its something where she threw a dart on the board and said, 'Arizona's going to be the place we're going to start from'. I think they've done polling data, I think they've talked to a number of individuals within and outside of the party structure, and I think she made a calculated decision that Arizona is going to be a good place top launch her national platform," Molera said.

Molera said the large population of tea party members in the state and Palin's overwhelming popularity within the group may also help explain choosing Arizona.

Both party chairmen anticipate the arrival of the Alaska governor.

"Her energy matches the spirit of this state," Morrissey said.

"What Sarah Palin represents is really this extreme Republican agenda, and her having a presence here in Arizona would just highlight that fact," Cherny said.

Months ago, Palin's daughter, Bristol, purchased a home in Maricopa. Speculation was the 20-year-old would attend the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, but the rumor never materialized.

I doubt if this one will, either, but you never know.

Makes sense, and many of us probably suspected as much when Bristol bought her house there. Chalk up economic development points for John Mccain ;-)

The only good part of this as far as I’m concerned is that we’ll be able to have some killer fundraisers. Tom Morrissey, who I met with the other day, is all about fundraising from the grass roots up. So, this would fit into his plan.

She may be planning a 3rd party run. Just a feeling. By January things will be so bad it might be the way.

As distasteful as this sounds it looks like she is going to try and leverage her relationship with McCain to gain support with the GOP old boy network.

We always see that "Bad Ass" BBQ place from 17 when we drive through. Do you know anyone who's been there? We've never been really motivated to try it. Kind of looks scary from the hiway - lol!

You would be in a position to know, so I'll defer to your opinion. Some would argue that he owes his reelection to her, others would say she had an obligatory statement early on then McCain won the rest on his own in large measure to a flawed JD Hayworth. I don't know and wouldn't claim to.
