Is Mitch Daniels, the governor of Indiana, going to run for president in 2012?
Mr. Daniels, a wonkish Republican, has not yet said whether he will seek his partys nomination, but his comments Wednesday about immigration could make it a bit more difficult if he does.
Faced with lawmakers who are considering an Arizona-style immigration law, Mr. Daniels said he did not support controversial provisions that sparked a national debate last year that would provide police officers the power to question and detain people they think are illegal immigrants.
I think that legislation will be changed, Mr. Daniels said Wednesday, according to The State Column. I support this, to drop the law enforcement provisions that have been the ones that have bothered most people.

He’s toast.
It’s a good thing the 1-person “Falcon Party” got zotted and never took off...
It didn't exactly REQUIRE cops to question perps they thought were illegals but rather prohibited local municipal authorities from PREVENTING cops and others up the line from questioning perps about their immigration status.
There's a huge difference there.
People who miss that one probably haven't read the legislation, but they have read a Leftwingtard propaganda piece about it.
So, the Sarah question as it might be addressed to "Mitch", what, other than the standard Leftwingtard periodicals most politicians drool over do you read?
Reading the Chicago Tribune, Indianapolis Star and Louisville Courier Journal will, in general, rot your brain!
It looks like Mitchy baby had better run for President in the democrat party. He doesn’t stand a chance with statements like that.
Well at least we know where he stands.
Yes! He's ignorant. He's toast. NEXT!
I have been saying for many months he is not so good on immigration. Mitch is not full RINO, but he is RINO enough to make me unhappy.
See, I share criticism fairly. Is this DDS?
How many GOP presidential aspirants are committed to securing our borders and will not even talk about the possiblity of amnesty. If they even use the words “comprehensive immigration reform” they are no damn good. Palin and who else?
Any conservative who backs this midget RINO is a fool.
Any conservative who backs this midget RINO is a fool.
This one is surprising ~ he's had plenty of time to check out what the Arizona law does ~ it's short enough.
IGNANT Eric Holder demonstrated his total IGNANCE about everything some time back on this same issue but since Eric is, at the moment, a "black man", he's not held to account. Daniels is ~as are other "white folks".
Someone might bother to tell Daniels that this law is shorter than the preamble to the contract to lease out the Toll Road and he should read it before mouthing off about it.
If there's something you want to get out ~ just come across with it with terms that don't already have other meanings. You're among friends so if you stutter don't worry ~ we'll only beat you a few times.
I will remember that. Actually in many ways I like Mitch. Smart, excellent bean counter, humorous. He has done a good job as Governor of Indiana.
You don’t really think Mitch could catch on nationwide, do you?
He does have flatter ears than Obama though. But he is short and Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer and George Will like him, so he must be establishment RINO. LOL /sarc
The Republican establishment just doesn’t get it.
Anyone who gets the nomination who supports amnesty and immigration reform (that’s you Daniel, Huckabee, etc.) will lose.
Big.
No one will work to support him against the insiders and RINOs. Ask McCain.
Sorry, Mitch; but there is no way I can support your candidacy. Neither yours, nor the Hucksters, nor Romnobot’s, nor any other Quisling who is eager to surrender our national sovereignty to an invading foreign force.

I’ve been walkin’ these streets so long
Singin’ the same old song
I know every lyin trick in every little dirty-trick book
Where hustle’s the name of the game
And patriots get washed away like the snow and the rain
Ive done a load of compromisin’
On the road to my horizon
But I’m gonna be where my lies are shinin’ on me
Like a RINO cowboy
Riding on my high horse pretendin Im a good ol boy
Like a RINO cowboy
Losin’ votes and money from people I don’t even know
No offers comin’ over the phone
Well, I really don’t mind the stain
And a smile can hide all my feign
But you’re blue when you’re ridin’ that train that’s goin down the tubes
And I dream of the things I wont do
With token promises and tons of your tax dollars tucked aside too
Ive done a load of compromisin’
On the road to my horizon
But I’m gonna be where my lies are shinin’ on me
Like a RINO cowboy
Riding on my high horse pretendin Im a good ol boy

Losin’ votes and money from people I don’t even know
No offers comin’ over the phone
Like a RINO cowboy
Riding on my high horse pretendin Im a good ol boy
FADE

My vote is going to the first candidate who openly embraces the Ryan plan (or Ryan himself if we can draft him late). Daniels is right in that debt is the most imminent and lethal threat to the republic. We still need to fight the reds on illegal immigration, but we’re not going to win every one of our battles in one election cycle, much as I would like to. This is the battle where we should focus everything we’ve got. If we can push across entitlement reform (ie, controlling Medicaid going to illegals), we will knock out their welfare power-base, setting the table for comprehensive border control reform later.
Mitch Daniels is a very lackluster, uninspiring, uncharismatic candidate. I’m surprised he would even run for president. But as he is a RINO, I’m not surprised he has this position.
He would make a good democratic also ran loser... but they only pick people who look good on camera as their presidential candidates. So alas he would never make it.
