Texas Grows Spending Almost 100% during Perry's Tenure

Posted on 08/14/2011 2:07:40 PM PDT by BereanBrain

During Perry's Tenure in Texas, Spending in Texas grew from about 49 Billion a year, to over 90 Billion a year. Texas budgets every 2 years, to the following show the budgets for both Bi-annums. Divide by two for average yearly spending.

Texas 2010-2011 Budget 182 Billion

http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Texas_state_budget

Texas 2000-2001 Budget was ~98 Billion and is available at

http://www.lbb.state.tx.us/Bill_76/Bill-76-4_Conference_Summary_0599.pdf

In other words CLOSE to 100% Growth in spending. (from 49 B to 91 B)

During this time, the Census says Texas grew from 20 Million (2000 Census) to 25 Million (2010 Census). That’s a growth of 25 Percent.

So much for Perry's Fiscal Conservative Credentials.

did’t you get the sarcasm?

The argument was that Perry had steered a good course by “stimulating” the economy.

I pointed out that oil price was not something that can be “stimulated”

I think you took my answer wrong.

I don’t like Perry but your arguments are pathetic.

I'm with you on that. It's rather amusing to watch all of this unfold and witness the self destruction. At this point, obama's reelection looks like a safe bet.

Seems too many have forgotten who the real enemy is.

Sad.

RINOS can’t win... That's all we have to choose from, like it or not.

Santorum, Bachmann and Cain are RINOS now? We sure are opening the definition of RINO pretty wide.

What happens when/if oil crashes to 20$ Either Massive cuts must be made or budget deficits. Of course by that time, Silck Rick will be LONG GONE from Texas.

Nothing bad at all happens. The state would have increased revenue from gasoline taxes as consumption would go through the roof. Gasoline taxes stay the same no matter the cost of a gallon

You do realize, don't you, that roughly 90% of the spending was self-supporting? That is went for things like student loans (over $6 billion, which are being repaid because we have JOBS), water districts (recouped through water bills), parks (recouped through user fees), and $3 Billion for a new cancer treatment center (paid for, again, by users)?

So only 10% will not ultimately be paid for by the folks using it. That's a growth of 1% per year, approximately; meanwhile, our FedGov grows at a rate of 5% to 8% per year.

Do a little more research as to where the money is actually being spent before posting lib talking points.

Not bad for the state that is second in population. Texas has a staggering percentage of the jobs created in the nation in the past 4 years. It probably has little to do with Rick Perry, but at least he stayed out of the way

Sure, the spending increased.

But did they at any time run a deficit budget?

argue with the debt clock. 40 Billion this year in the red. That’s unsustainable.

THere are no talking points.

There is a link to s web site showing FACTS.

People who don’t care about the facts are why this country will go bankrupt.

Just keep electing “our guy” and cover up the real issues. The other side is doing the same thing.

Join the TEA Party (Taxed Enough Already). Throw out the big spenders of BOTH PARTIES.

NOMINATE a REAL CONSERVATIVE...

Stop being a part of the political “machine” and do your job as the founding fathers encouraged us to.

I should have prefaced that by saying viable candidates.

This race, whether you like it or not, is now between the Mittster and Perry (Palin has yet to announce).

That is just the way it is imo and I don't like it either.

Oil is a global market, Texas doesn’t set the price. So even if they benefitted from an increase at least it’s because they are willing to produce oil instead of being like some other states that won’t.

“If you want to vote for a big government guy, go ahead. Just don’t post on here that he is a small government guy”

So, are you a Paulbot? The guy who stuffs more earmarks in the budget than most other reps, and then votes against the final budget? That type small gov guy?

Your point is?

Which items in the budget were discretionary and which were mandated by the Feds. Got any data on that?

Texas by it's Constitution must have a balanced budget during each two year cycle. That was done and the elected legislature put together a budget, passed it and it was a done deal.

2001 budget
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spend.php?span=usgs302&year=2001&view=1&expand=&expandC=&units=b&fy=fy12&local=c&state=TX&pie=statelocal#usgs302

2010
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spend.php?year=2010&state=TX&units=b&fy=fy12&gov=&pie=statelocal

The first legislative session Perry would have been governor occurred in early 2001.

Fed if 5-8% growth a year.

Texas spending grew 100% in 9 years. On my calculator that’s in excess of 8%.

WHy don’t you do your research? You have this unsubstantiated opinion that the federal growth is > texas spending growth over the last 10 years.

Can you prove your case?

2001 Tx Budget = 49 Billion
2010 Tx Budget = 91 Billion

9 years 85.7% increase

“So much for Perry’s Fiscal Conservative Credentials.”

Only to the mathematically illiterate. That works out to a 7% increase per year. If you account for population growth, federal mandates, and inflation, that’s incredibly good!!!
