President Barack Obama is in trouble in New York. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what that means for him in the rest of the country. The presidential race heated up this month with Rep. Michele Bachmann's victory in the Iowa straw poll, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's withdrawal and Texas Gov. Rick Perry's entry.
There were also important developments here in New York: a striking decline in the president's approval rating, the tightening of a special congressional election, ambivalence on the part of many big Republican fundraisers and more dillydallying from Rudy Giuliani.
Here's a rundown:
Mr. Obama. A Siena poll last week reported almost two-thirds of New York voters rate his job performance as poor or fair. This from a state that gave him 62% of the vote in 2008.
The spinmeisters said other findings in the poll were more favorable to the president, as they showed him in a dead-heat in a hypothetical matchup with someone else'' and beating all the leading GOP contenders. I wouldn't put much credence in that line of thinking. Candidates with such miserable ratings don't win.
Anthony Weiner's seat. To everyone's surprise, especially Democratic power brokers in the city, the Sept. 13 special election to replace the disgraced congressman is a race. A poll showed Republican and former television executive Bob Turner within six points of longtime city politician David Weprin. There are some twists. The Democrats nominated their weakest candidate so that the powerbrokers could more easily eliminate the district in next year's reapportionment. Ed Koch is mucking up the scene by trying to make the contest a referendum on Mr. Obama's Israel policy. And polls that show a close race in special elections are notoriously unreliable....

pray for a conservative election win 2012.
He will be lucky to win two or three states in the general Election. I dont care who wins the primary, he will be tossed in the biggest landslide ever.
And they continue with the destruction I.E. EPA rulings. They do not care, they want to drag the rest down and create a NAZI type society.
And they sure are beating up on Palin because she has not sent any of us her intentions on engraved stationery with flowers all around it. It's Palin, Palin, Palin all the time. Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Is she running, is she not running? Why won't she tell us? And besides, it's too late. Too late for Palin even though that Rick Perry just got into the race last week. Not too late for Rick Perry but too late for Sarah Palin! Darn that Sarah Palin, she just won't make up her mind and boy, are we pissed!
Well at least some of us are. The rest of us are smart enough to know she's running and she'll let us know officially all in good time.
Obama will win NY easily. I say that as a former New Yorker raised there. It won’t even be close.
Obama will win at least 13 states. Bank on it.
Chris Christie?!
He has stated repeatedly and clearly that he is not running. He has left absolutely no wiggle room. "No way!" was his latest response to the question.
The fact that some people keep pushing for him is not his fault. He can't possibly be any clearer about the issue.
“Obama has issues”
No kidding!
YAHOO!! You tell it, Sam Adams.
