If a poll conducted Saturday is any indication, local Republicans think Herman Cain is the man for U.S. president.
Exactly 100 registered voters participated in the Henderson County Republican Party Presidential Straw Poll during Farm City Day in Hendersonville, with 19 percent choosing Cain.
Tied for second were Rick Perry and Mitt Romney with 17 percent each, followed by Sarah Palin with 11 percent and Ron Paul with 10 percent.
Michele Bachmann got 6 percent of the vote, as did Chris Christie, who has not actually entered the race. Conversations with participants indicate that if Christi does enter the race, Henderson County Republican Party Chairman Mike Scruggs said via email, he would draw support from both Romney and Cain.
Scruggs added that many participants indicated strong opposition or considerable frustration with President Barack Obama, and are weighing the ability of a candidate to beat Obama more heavily than specific issues.
I would say the race is still a free-for-all, Scruggs said. Many voters are still uncertain about the candidates and their positions on many issues.
I’m curious to see the post race card played polls will say.
Correction: I’m curious to see WHAT the post race card played polls will say.
Unlike Mr. Obama, Mr. Cain is actually descended from slaves and those who went through Jim Crow and surely faced discrimination himself while growing up and in his career. See the difference?
I see the difference but Cain shot himself in the foot. I’ll vote for him if he gets the nomination but I cant say he will be my first choice in the primary.
Correction there was no race card played. Mr Cain was asked a question, he answered it.
What is going to be interesting to see is just how badly Perry tanks now that his campaign has stupidly tried to make an issue of this Perry error in judgement.
By stupidly trying to make an issue of this, the Perry camp is keeping it in the headlines to Perry's determent.
It was a huge mistake by the Perry camp not to get out in front of this story and now they are stupidly doubling down on their error by keeping it alive.
