Will makes a very good point. I don't usually find Will to be as brilliant as he evidently thinks he is, but maybe his Romney-Dukakis analogy will get through to some of the establishment types who are half-heartedly backing Romney because they believe (falsely) that he has the best chance to win.

Republicans got sold a bill of goods by the establishment when they were strapped with McCain, and then the people who did the selling jumped ship to go with Obama. The same people are selling Romney, and this time Republicans aren’t so eager to buy. Why go with an establishment politiomorph, when there is an honest, intelligent candidate like Cain?

Will makes a good point, but notice how Matthew Dowd, consummate GOP insider, paints Cain as an “outsider”.

Cain, for the record, has long been an insider, having been a lobbyist, co-chaired Steve Forbes’s campaign in 2000, making appearances for years for the Koch brothers’ Americans For Prosperity, etc.. But the Establishment wants to present him as an “outsider” to draw in all the tea party rubes.

Dowd, BTW, was a Democrat in TX up until 2000, and he was an Bushie insider, playing a key role in W’s reelection campaign in particular.

“A technocratic Massachusetts governor running on competence, not ideology,” Will observed.

Will lost me at 'competence'.

Does that mean SNL will hire Jon Lovitz to portray Romney?

Wow! He’s right on! I’m almost sorry for all the times I talked about the enormous stick he wears where the sun don’t shine.
