NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Members of the Occupy Nashville movement had some company Thursday at their nightly meeting as some Vanderbilt College republicans moved in to have their voices heard.

Occupy Nashville's general assembly started Thursday, like most nights with announcements, but during the meeting the Vanderbilt College Republicans were preparing a protest of their own.

"We hope to show Nashville that all the youth, and all the college students aren't with this movement, as is portrayed often," said Vanderbilt Junior Stephen Siao....

I'm almost ashamed that us older folks aren't doing this.

Ya beat me to it. I saw this, too, and was getting ready to post it. :-)

I’m surprised no one else has done this up to this point. Kudos to those Vandy students!
Since the majority of the 24/7 Nashville occupiers appear to be young folks, maybe this will have more impact than if older folks had approached them.

Ya never know.

That’s because we don’t protest unless it’s on weekends because we have jobs, only chant “stop spending” and “read the bill” and we have families.

Oh, and we know protesting is only important when it’s really important...like almost never till the tea party movement began.

Good for them!

None of this has come really close to me. They did have an “Occupy Valdosta” one Saturday a few weeks ago, but it only consisted of the usual welfare trash waddling through downtown on their “mahch”. Summing the IQs of the entire half thousand would yield a number far below 35K.

Right now, that same crowd is too busy stealing pecans from road right of ways to bother with more protesting. I expect more from them after Christmas.

I am rather close to the only place where MLK’s Freedom Riders’ stuff failed. It can be done. Furthermore, history tends to repeat....

Just forwarded this article to my eldest daughter, a Vandy MBA grad now working in Boston. Thought she’d get a kick out of it.

I hope your daughter does get a kick out of it. :-)

And I hope those students managed to plant some seeds of sensibility in the minds of at least a few of the occupiers. Sometimes it works better if they hear it from their peers rather than their elders.

To have been a moth fluttering around to overhear those discussions. LOL!

Has anyone asked the protesters what will satisfy them enough to leave their tent cities? What exactly do they want? Would they like a public hanging, perhaps? Would freeing Mumia do it? Should the banks open their vaults and let them take all they want?
