In New Hampshire, they’re still holding out hope for Sarah.
Cheerleaders for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are eagerly awaiting her keynote speech Feb. 11 at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., hoping against all odds she’ll shake up the GOP field and announce a run — for president.
“If she’s going to do it, that’s when she’d do it,” said Warren Rasmussen, the volunteer New Hampshire coordinator for Organize4Palin.com. “If she felt there was really no one who could make a proper case for conservatism, I think she might feel compelled to run.”
Sure, it’s a long shot, but Rasmussen said Palin’s backers will not be denied.
“Certainly she has a large devoted core group of followers who have written in her name in Iowa and elsewhere,” Rasmussen said.
Palin seems to be relishing her role as sideline bomb-thrower while the GOP hopefuls duke it out, demanding just this week, for example, that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney release his tax records and documents from his time at Bain Capital.
So will Palin’s rhetoric hurt Romney?
When Palin visited the Palmetto State in 2010 to endorse Nikki Haley for governor, she shot up from fourth to first place, eventually winning, said Clemson political science professor David Woodard.
“She packs quite a wallop in this state,” Woodard said. “Will they listen to her as they did in 2010? Who knows. Maybe. And if that’s the case, stand by.”

You could easily make a case for the six-member, Bay State-based band Tuxedo Junction, whose mission was to keep Newt Gingrich supporters in an upbeat mood at the campaign’s election-night headquarters in Manchester — in the face of wildly disappointing results that put the former House speaker in fourth place.
The band had readied “Eye of the Tiger” in hopes of a Rocky-esque, David-over-Goliath triumph.
Instead, Gingrich walked on to Joe Esposito’s “You’re the Best.”
The nonpartisan musicians — they played a Mitt Romney fundraiser when he was governor, as well as Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s son’s wedding — had strict orders. The Gingrich campaign told them one song in particular was off-limits: Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer.”
Rubin doubles up
Massachusetts Democratic kingmaker Doug Rubin already had his hands full working for Elizabeth Warren in her fight to unseat U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, but now the highly touted strategist has added congressional hopeful Joseph P. Kennedy III, a 31-year-old prosecutor, to his client roster.
Rubin’s Northwind Strategies has been retained by the latest Kennedy political hopeful as he explores a run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, a Northwind spokesman confirmed.
Also exploring a run for Frank’s seat is Boston City Councilor Michael Ross. Republican Elizabeth Childs from Brookline is already in the race, while Sean Bielat, who gave Frank a stiff challenge in 2010, is expected to announce his plans this week.

None, none of the current field of Republican Candidates are as conservative as Sarah Palin. ‘Nuff said.
February is a relatively quiet month for primaries so regardless of how SC and Florida turn out, Romney will still not have this locked up (in terms of delegates) by a long shot. February 11th is also nearly a month before "Super Tuesday" which is plenty of time for an insurgent Palin campaign to gain some momentum.
Granted, Palin would have quite a challenge getting on the ballots for the remaining primaries and it is already too late for some of them. However, a well organized write-in/sticker campaign could mitigate some of that. If any candidate can motivate voters to write in his/her name, it would be Palin.
Now I'm not one of those starry-eyed dreamers who actually believe that Palin is going to get into this race. I doubt that this will happen. I'm just pointing out that there is a realistic scenario of a Palin victory should she surprise us and decide to do so.
Over the past few days, I have come to the grim realization that unless something radical happens in this race, that Mitt Romney is pretty much unstoppable at this point. I do not see any scenario of Newt Gingrich pulling this out. Newt just has too many negatives and on top of that, his image was badly tarnished with conservatives over the past week or so with his ill-thought out attacks on capitalism in a clumsy attempt to attack Romney. By adopting the class warfare tactics of the "occupy Wall Street movement" and the far left, Gingrich has damaged himself beyond recovery in my opinion.
Rick Santorum, after his surprising finish in Iowa, had all the air sucked out of his momentum in NH and has now limped into SC a wounded duck. Unless Santorum can have a huge comeback and a strong showing in next week's primary, his campaign will be on life support. Right now, Santorum is our only hope to get a conservative in the White House with the current field and right now his chances are as slim as Tim Tebow's were at halftime in last night big game.
Rick Perry is finished. He will never be able to overcome his abysmal debate performances and they way he fumbled and stumbled on naming the three departments of federal government he proposed to eliminate was a "Howard Dean" moment that he will never recover from. Whether this is fair or not, it made him a national laughingstock and was a fatal blow to his campaign. Because of it, Rick Perry will never be a player on the national stage again.
Jon Huntsman at this point probably has the best chance to beat Romney but he just does not have the money and the organization to get it done. If he doesn't place in SC, his campaign will quickly run out of gas. On top of that, Huntsman is not exactly an improvement on Romney so whether it is Romney or Huntsman, we are screwed either way.

I know that many of you will be upset to read this but it's time to face up to facts. Unless something dramatic happens in this race, Mitt Romney is well on his way to the GOP nomination.
So while I don't think it will happen, Sarah Palin does still have a slim window of opportunity to shake up this moribund GOP race. Otherwise, conservatives may have to start looking at third party options.

If the “First Dude” endorses Gingrich, is anyone that deluded to think she is going to jump in to the race?
To me, that was a strong indicator that she wasn’t going to enter the race. But, if she did decide, Todd could just say that Newt was his favorite AT THAT TIME during the campaign.
Author sounds like a Romneybot and doesn't know the meaning of Going Rogue. The time for a GOP run is long over, but there's more than one way to skin a cat. Personally I don't think she'll do anything to upset the apple cart.

We can honor your decision, if YOU choose to not run for this office, but a Mitt Romney nomination will be a DISASTER!!! You can turn this primary process into a victory for Conservatives!  PLEASE schedule a visit to SC and strongly endorse and campaign for Newt Gingrich. Newt can defeat Obama, AND he will REVERSE the Obama nightmare. Romney has a HISTORY of supporting abortion, gay-marriage, higher taxes, and ObamneyCare. Romney will be easily defeated by Obama, and he would NOT reverse Obama's policies. PLEASE Sarah, help us win back this country!!! |
