Palin: Christie's Gingrich attack shows he 'lacks discipline'

Forget about Mitt Romney vs. Newt Gingrich. In a tantalizing GOP undercard, Sarah Palin is now picking a fight with Chris Christie after the New Jersey governor and top Romney backer called Gingrich an "embarrassment" to the GOP.

Christie made the charge about the former House speaker Sunday in an interview on NBC's "Meet The Press."

"I think Newt Gingrich has embarrassed the party over time," Christie said, referring to an ethics fine Gingrich paid and his being "run out of the speakership by his own party." "Whether he'll do it again in the future, I don't know. But Gov. Romney never has."

Palin, speaking with the Fox Business Network, called that a "rookie mistake" on the part of Christie, who is two years into his governorship.

"I think if Chris were asked about some of his past actions, taking a state helicopter to his kid’s baseball game, some people may say, well, that sort of embarrassed your party," Palin said, according to a transcript provided by the network.

Christie in June said he would reimburse the state for flights on a state police helicopter that were for personal, not official reasons -- of which there were about three dozen....

She may not have fully endorsed Newt yet, but this is good enough for me. What say you?

I wish Sarah was running. That’s what I say. But for now, she’s doing some great punching.

I say that's gonna be expensive! Three dozen helicopter rides? Ouch.

She will endorse him, but at the time when she thinks it will have the maximum impact. After all, she will only get to do it once, and she will want it to count. Have faith.

I kinda liked Christie when he first arrived on the national scene, but now I think he’s a loud mouth who likes to hear himself talk. He has no business trashing anyone when so much is at stake. Yeah, go out and support your guy, but don’t be Mitt Romney’s surrogate mud slinger. That’s totally uncalled for.

Oh and Coulter, heard her on Gallagher’s program today continuing her viciousness on Newt. She was already starting to become persona non grata with me, but just really can’t stand the woman at all now. You don’t do that degree of an attack to someone who may become the nominee.

Very nice tweak on her part - it seems like this crop of contenders is forgetting Reagan’s 11th Commandment and they are playing directly into the hands of Obama and the MSM. Christie should focus his fire on the biggest problem we face - Obama. Period. Attacks by Romney proxies on Gingrich’s character are completely counterproductive.

“Christie’s Gingrich attack shows he ‘lacks discipline’ “

Don’t mean to be rude but his waistline show’s he lacks discipline.

Newt is going to be attacked from all quarters of the GOP Establishment. The long knives are out for his scalp. I hope Newt has the money and staying power to turn those knives back on those who wield them, although the wielders will be throwing those knives basically from the back. There are as many weasels in the GOP are there are in that other party.

All this is a lot like seeing Shotgun Willie wearing a Dennis Kucinich T-Shirt a few years ago. Perhaps all this gnashing of teeth is the current Republican Party establishment being pulled out by it’s roots.

Christie:
Yuh Fat F&*^(K!

You are going to have an awfully hard time walking back that idiotic and uninformed statement.

You are and embarrassment whose ego is bigger than your fat ass and one of them needs a severe lancing.

Palin is actually equating the embarrassment of a Governor wrongly taking helicopter rides to the embarrassment of a Speaker of the House being run out of town by his own party?

Regardless of what one thinks is or is not a political embarrassment, the logic here is extremely lame.

She's good. Combines John 8:7 with Reagan's 11th.
The stones Christie is throwing are boomerangs.

I agree with you. Sharp contrasts do have to be drawn between the candidates (Newt will do the same to Mitt), but there is a time and a place for everything.

That said, I think the “he got bloodied in the primaries” theory is way overblown.

And if Christie didn’t say it, someone else would. Point being that this is what is going to be thrown at Gingrich, period, and I don’t think it makes it all that much worse that it was done by a GOP’er. Not in the long run, at least.

You mean "around here" on Free Republic????

While I've seen -- and contributed to -- all kinds of posts praising Rick Perry for being a true patriot in making a heroic, painful, and difficult decision, I have yet to come across one telling him to "get the ****out." I'm not saying there weren't some, but there can't have been that many. Out of easily 2,000 FR posts I've read since Thursday morning when Perry withdrew and gave his support to Newt, I've not seen a single one that had anything but praise for him, even -- especially -- on Santorum threads.

Yes, it's brilliant how she has waited until Gingrich is the only remaining choice.

Really difficult and deep. Sun Tzu kind of stuff, you betcha.
