Mitt Romney and his supporters are spending more than $4 million in the battle for next Tuesdays must-win Michigan primary, funding a barrage of negative attack TV ads aimed at Republican presidential rival Rick Santorum.
But the spending spree is nothing new for the Romney campaign, which spent $18.8 million in January, while a pro-Romney super PAC dished out nearly $14 million in Florida, 20 times the amount spent by any other group mostly for attack ads against Newt Gingrich.
Overall, the Romney campaign has spent more than $55 million as of early February, with negative advertising accounting for much of that amount.
Yet Romney doesnt have a lot to show for all that spending. Of the nine GOP primaries and caucuses held so far, the former Massachusetts governor has won just four. Santorum, meanwhile, pulled off stunning victories in three states on Feb. 7, winning the Missouri primary and caucuses in Minnesota and Colorado...

when you don’t have a record that you can defend, you have to tear down everyone else’s record. That has been Mitt’s strategy from the beginning. He is a pox on the republican house.
Sad isn’t it? How can anyone who calls themselves a Conservative support this ... thing?
It’s ridiculous to hear the commercials by the superpaks supporting Romney trying to paint Santorum as a big government when Romney authored Romneycare. How stupid do they think we are?
So who will get the Santorum votes? Romney’s biggest fear, NEWT.
"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Weren’t we warned about AMBITION? Spending this much and not being clear King-o-the-hill, sure looks like ambition driving him to me.
Even after tossing $55Mil, Mitt only marginally wins any of these significant Primaries. Am betting that if he doesn’t decisively win MI and Super Tuesday, wifey Ann will revert to 2008 and pull the plug on her money drainage. Then again having the RNC, RINOs, Dredge backing and “who knows” backing his SuperPac, maybe not.
