Alabama Democrats scrub Bill Maher fundraiser off website

The Alabama Democratic Party has now scrubbed a web page advertising its upcoming fundraiser with HBO’s Bill Maher following an uproar from conservatives about the event because of the comedian’s history of making sexist statements about women.

The web address — http://aldemocrats.org/bill-maher — once took visitors to an invitation to the Maher reception in Huntsville on March 17. Now it redirects to the homepage of the Alabama Democratic Party.

Bradley Davidson, the executive director of the Alabama Democratic Party, has not returned multiple requests for comment from TheDC about the reception.

The scrubbing was first reported by the Alabama blog Yellow Hammer Politics.

On Wednesday, Alabama Republican Party chairman Bill Armistead called on the Democrats to cancel the event, saying, “They couldn’t have chosen someone more capable of spewing vile and offensive rhetoric that denigrates women and people of faith.”

Maher is known for making sexist statements about conservative women, including calling former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin a “c-nt” and a “dumb twat” on separate occasions.

Here’s a screen shot of the website before it was scrubbed:

What I state here is NOT a defense of demonRAT party but those of that stripe in Alabama have generally been slightly less insane than their Yankee fellow party members. Ideally, every trace of the demonRAT party would ultimately be eradicated in the Heart of Dixie by the will of We the People.

In the past, there were some almost tolerable 'RATS from Alabama like Howell Heflin, who served in the Marine Corps and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He was pro-life, pro-gun, anti-sodomy and supported increased defense spending. Maybe some measure of Heflin-like sanity still has some influence on the Alabama 'RATS?

I’m tempted to go protest . . . but it would interfere with my St. Patty’s Day celebration with family.
