Some big names in Phoenix business are offering financial support to both U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake and Mesa philanthropist and businessman Wil Cardon in the Republican race to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl.

Cardon just launched his first television ad in the race, in which Flake is the favorite in the primary and general election.

Cardon has close to $1.3 million of his own money into the GOP race.

Flake has raised $3 million, according to the Federal Election Commission. Flake has financial support from Mitt Romney and he’s got the backing of the conservative, anti-tax Club for Growth. Romney has also donated to Cardon who also counts sports mogul Jerry Colangelo among his backers.

This race has seen many changes in the past week. The Democrat candidate, ex-U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona. got a big break when his primary opponent dropped out. Meanwhile, Republica Congerssman Jeff Flake has is having a surprisingly hard primary. Businessman Wil Cardon has been attacking Flake as a political insider. Flake is a strong conservative on all issues except for border security, while Cardon is a strong conservative on the whole range of issues.

This is why a Republican President should never appoint a non-Republican to anything unless it’s part of a plan to get their House or Senate seat (Tony Hall-Ohio).

I do not support Flake. For an individual lacking bonafides on the borders to be seriously running for office in AZ as a Republican is ludicrous.

Two Mormon RINOs. Yawn. Cardon is pretending (a la McLame) that he wants secure borders. He is a fraud. Flake is worse. Awful “choice” for AZ GOP.

This is another Republican primary that’s showing up on the charts. The vote is in September.
