Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) today filmed a TV ad in support of Congressional candidate Thomas Massie and plans to endorse him soon.
Ive made the decision today to go ahead and help him, Paul said in an interview today in his Senate office. I filmed an ad for him today.
Massie, the Lewis County judge-executive, is locked in a competitive race for Kentuckys open 4th district seat, currently occupied by retiring Rep. Geoff Davis (R). The other two top contenders in the race are state Rep. Alecia Webb-Edgington and Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore. Paul said an official endorsement of Massie would come soon. Its not that I dislike the the other candidates. And I probably wouldnt have gotten involved, but other people got involved endorsing one of the other candidates and so I felt, to level the playing field, Im going to get involved, he said.
Webb-Edgington, who has establishment GOP backing, got the endorsements of Davis and former Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) last month.
Thomas Massie is an extraordinary candidate. You dont get people like this, Paul said, lauding the candidates biography as the American dream and praising his tenure as judge-executive.
He ran, and within three months, he found enough savings to pay for his salary, Paul said. I think hell be one of the people up here who will be a believer in civil liberties and really will vote to cut the spending thats necessary to balance the budget.

This could be enough to push TEA Party favorite Thomas Massie to victory in the primary (Kentucky does not have runoffs). The other candidates running for the Republican nomination aren’t bad, but this is a safely Republican district, so we don’t have to settle for “good enough.” Massie is the best choice here.
How’s KY-06 looking? Is Barr running again? He almost pulled off an upset in 2010.
Yes, Barr is running again. As of now, though, he’s still been outraised by Chandler by a 2-to-1 margin.
Andy Barr is running again and he’s one of the designated “Young Guns” who will get the maximum support his party can give him.
Having Rand Paul endorse Massie is a double-edged sword in my book, since Paul has made some good conservative endorsements, but we don’t need any more Paulistinians in Congress (and good riddance to cult leader Ron Paul). And Lewis County is tiny compared to the suburban Cinci counties, so it could be risky nominating Massie unless we knew for sure that he’s the real deal. So I’d like some more info before supporting Massie.

You raise valid concerns, but the other two Republican candidates in the race seem very establishment. They’re not bad choices, but not willing to go the extra distance for the conservative cause. Thomas Massie has an outstanding record in his current post.
Worried he could lose in November? I wouldn't.
