Maggie and Emily write this morning on the new role Sarah Palin has carved out for herself in 2012 politics, picking the races she gets involved in more carefully and seeking out opportunities where she can have (or appear to have) disproportionate impact:
"This year, Palin has become almost irrelevant in the context of the presidential race she once had a chance to dominate, and is seen more than ever as a sideshow by the Republican establishment. But after seeing her celebrity peak last year, Palin has settled into a role as something of a strong Triple-A political ballplayer, picking well on down-ballot races and earning credit as she goes.
If she jumps into the right streams, the ex-veep nominees backers will cite her endorsements as fresh evidence of her clout even if shes being carried by the tide. Yet her durability among the grassroots of the party, even with the tea-party movement diffusing in 2012, is clear.
There is a vacuum on the right now, and at some point thats an opportunity for someone, and it wont be resolved in this summer or this fall, said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos. Sarah Palin has as much a claim to that as anyone right now

She lives rent free! Can’t wait till she hands the keys back and moves to the biggest house in the land. Hope I live to see the day!
Politico: the irrelevant speaking inanities, infinitely.

Our main hope is to have an increasing number of TEA Party members elected to Congress and State offices. Pushing the GOP-e out of power is a task which will require at least a decade of diligent and unceasing effort. We must focus on replacing RINOs with conservatives whenever we can.
When Alexander Burns and Maggie Haberman speak...
< crickets >
The Left has been worshiping politics in the USA since the 1920’s.....or earlier. They have controlled the local political discussion, leading to control of state legislatures-they control the two largest and most profitable states (historically)-California and New York.
They ran The House of Representatives. from 1930-1994 when Gingrich unhorsed them in the House.
This country doesn’t BEGIN to turn around until the Tea Party owns the House for at least 10 years. To own the House means you need to own the states.
This is where our girl is going. The mess didn’t happen in one election cycle. It took 2-3 generations. If We the People want to solve it peaceably, it will take at least 1-2 generations to do so.
EXACTLY! And she is doing a fine job I might add....
Isn't that exactly what she said she was going to do? The idiot authors of this hitpiece are so saddened by her success that its easy to recognize their passive-aggressiveness.
Good call.
Slowly, begrudgingly, some of the MSM are starting to wise up to Palin. Yes, she’s a player and unlike Trump, she ain’t no Madonna publicity hound. You could tell from some that there’s a begrudging “respect” for her shewed tactics.
This, ladies and gentleman, is how Palin, if she wants to become POTUS, will HAVE to trek. It took Reagan 12 years (1968-1980) to convert his popularity into political gravitas...so will Palin.
Since she won’t have GOPe support (and the benefits that come with it) she will need:
01. Political IOUs and a respectable win-loss record (more “Thank you Sarah” moments)
02. Positive name recognition beyond the base
03. An enhanced “Palin Brand”
04. More international exposure
05. Face time at all levels
06. More gravitas within the GOP rank-and-file at all spectrum levels (moderate to conservative)
07. Inroads within the GOP nuts-n-bolts at the state/county level (VERY IMPORTANT)
08. Electronic body guards on social media sites
09. Those willing to interject the “Palin dogmas” at all levels of political discourse and functions
10. Those willing to become a PAIN IN THE ASS to the establishment
11. Inroads with the bundlers and super pacs.
12. A power base within the new media
13. A hard core support base that will organize, fund raise, blog and recruit.
14. To hit the “rubber chicken” circuit
15. An ensemble of high-level Palinistas in all sectors of society (media, entertainment, finance, academia, etc.,)
16. Time to let this all sink in and interface with the American lexicon and culture.
In a word, an “infrastructure” independent of the GOPe.
Could Palin run in 2012? YES. Would it had been gratifying? YES, Would it had ended well? NO (IMO) because the timing was not right and the chess pieces weren’t set up properly. Much like a good general, Sarah saw the lay of the land and it was bad terrain. That’s smart because it tells me that she won’t half-ass this and charge blindly into the buzz saws.
One more thing. Palin just can’t go “ta-dah” and win it by simply entering the room. She will have to win it by basic “blocking and tackling” fundamentals. Like the Roman legions of old, it will be a sweaty, bloody, in-your-face slug fest. She will need a heart of steel and a soul of iron....so will her supporters. But I think Palin knows this.
Last year, when she said “no” to 2012, I was pissed at her and had a fit. But the more I see this play out, the more I see her as the calm one and me as the fanatic barbarian. She played chess while I (and others) played checkers.
The arctic fox is loose!!! START THE BUS!!!!
