Superman T-shirt, towering wedges: New-look Palin ditches boxy suits as she backs Steelman in MO
The London Daily Mail ^ | August 7, 2012 | Olivia Fleming

Sarah Palin stepped out in Kansas yesterday wearing a Superman T-shirt, skintight cropped pants and five-inch platform wedges - her political uniform of choice while campaigning for Republican Sarah Steelman.

While mounting an aggressive campaign in Missouri with television and radio ads, and then serving barbecued pork sandwiches at a rural political picnic, the 48-year-old ditched her suits for an entirely new look. Taking to the makeshift stage in the middle of a farm field, the former Alaska governor proved her new style seems to be nowhere near as conservative as her political views.

After the former vice-presidential candidate was controversially given a $150,000 clothing allowance during the 2008 campaign, her outfits have routinely consisted of sharp Valentino suits, Escada blazers and Elie Tahari dresses.

But the Alaskan native's new take on polished political attire didn't seem to bother the 500 plus crowd that gathered to hear her speak.

Many waited over an hour for Palin to take the stage, where she backed Steelman who is in a tight three-way race for Tuesday’s Republican primary for Missouri’s U.S. Senate seat, just days after Dick Cheney told ABC News that John McCain’s decision to pick her as his running mate in 2008 was 'a mistake'.

Regardless of her questionable wardrobe however, or perhaps because of it, Palin's political magic appears to carry some serious weight with American conservatives.

Despite being ousted by Washington's 'in' crowd - she is also yet to be invited to speak at the upcoming Republican National Convention - Palin is still wielding her Superman celebrity-status power, endorsing half a dozen senatorial candidates, including last week’s winner in Texas, Ted Cruz.

Since the 2008 election, the failed vice presidential candidate has landed a book deal and reality TV shows, giving her an estimated net worth of $12 million...

A red skirt would have been more apropos.

Instead of the black capri pants? Well it's a look.

So you have no respect for the hard work she did in 2010 and this year to get Tea Party and other conservatives elected? Wow!

I wish I could post photos here. There’s another one of her wearing a long, form-fitting striped shirt. I’m not jealous of Sarah but I’d sure like to have her bod.

Oh, she’s great as a talking head, paid speaker, etc. And a lot of folks consider her to be a water-walker so she motivates them and that’s all good.

Sarah was great, at first. For me, though, the attraction started to wane when I saw how poorly prepared Palin was to step into the presidency if that had been her fate. Then afterward, when she decided to abandon her position as governor of Alaska, I pretty musch dismissed her as a serious political player.

She does give me the opportunity to fast-forward thru her interview segments on FNC :)

JMO, everybody has their own tastes.

The Washington Post's War On Women And Sarah Palin
Hmm. Freelance writer and Washington Post contributor to their "She the People" feature Diana Reese drips with condescension all over Sarah Palin.

What to make of this, other than, it's not okay to be sexist but it's Sarah Palin, so I will be?

"When Palin took to the makeshift stage in the middle of a Missouri farm field, she was dressed more for the part of Hollywood celebrity than serious politician. I know someone’s going to remind me that just last week, I said it was sexist to focus on the wardrobes of women in politics. But it was hard for me to take Palin seriously dressed as she was."

I thought all that "war on women" nonsense was a GOP deal? My impression of what Reese is actually saying here is, it's not okay to dump on women in politics unless, God forbid, you know, they're a woman!! Femininity, or, ... good heavens, sexuality ist strictly verboten!!

This is why I contend that the real war on women originates on the left. Outside of the entertainment field, to qualify for protected status on the left, a woman needs to leave behind those things that might make her appear uniquely feminine to a man.

If you want to shoot for attractive, let alone sensual, you'll have a better go of it as a gay male, than you will a woman today under the left's guidelines for political correctness.

But as for what one might call a real woman, one a man might find himself attracted to, or even want to spend some time with, in the mind of those on the left today, they can't possibly be worth taking seriously.

So, who is actually waging war on women in American society when it comes right down to it? As far as I'm concerned, it's the left and liberals and always has been.

I’m not jealous, either. You get what you work for, and I’m not willing to work hard enough to be governor of a state or to be in that good shape. I can admire Sarah’s drive without wishing I had any of my own ;-).

Thanks for posting.

I can remember about a year ago when someone posted a photo of Sarah wearing a white blouse that was very attractive. Some freepers went ballistic over that. People better get used to the fact that a woman can be sensual as well as an effective politician.

Sarah uses all the weapons in her arsenal to get things done.

This idea that she is a “celebrity” gets me, too. Like John F. Kennedy and Jackie were not celebrities? Bill Clinton was the ultimate celebrity!

What really gets people is that she and Todd possess a kind of working-class charisma that is brand new in American politics. It is not driven by fabulously expensive college educations, scholarships to Oxford, or a life of sinecures - as Hilliary Clinton has had. This seems to drive a lot of people crazy.

I don't think it's totally new, so much as that it's *back*, at a time when everyone can see it because of national and international media coverage, as well as all the non-"news" exposure.

Charles Murray's new book, "Coming Apart," documents in numbing detail the isolation of the socioeconomic elites from not just the poor but everyone we'd call "regular people." They don't know people like the Palins, their parents didn't associate with "workers," and they just can't wrap their minds around Sarah's popularity and influence. "Who voted for her? Who cares about her endorsement? Nobody WE know!"
