As Republicans were promoting themselves as a multiracial party from the platform in Tampa two weeks ago, an ugly incident on the convention floor suggested not everyone had got the memo. From the podium a range of speakers of Haitian, Mexican, Cuban and Indian descent spoke of how their parents had overcome huge barriers so they could succeed in the US. In the audience, a successful black woman who works for CNN was being pelted with peanuts by a convention-goer, who said: "This is how we feed the animals."
The tension between the projection of a modern, inclusive, tolerant party and the reality of a sizeable racially intolerant element within its base pining for the restoration of white privilege is neither new nor accidental. Indeed, it in no small part explains the trajectory of the Republican party for almost the last half century. In his diary, Richard Nixon's chief-of-staff, Bob Haldeman, described how his boss spelled out the racial contours of a new electoral game-plan to win southern and suburban whites over to the Republican party in the wake of the civil rights era. "You have to face the fact that the whole problem is really the blacks," Nixon told him. "The key is to devise a system that recognises that while not appearing to."
This could be the final hurrah for what became known as Nixon's southern strategy...

The author
Other people really took Martin Luther King (noted Republican) at his word and tried to build a color-blind society in which people are judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. The Democrats hate us for doing that.
Another fake but accurate incident.
a successful black woman who works for CNN was being pelted with peanuts by a convention-goer, who said: “This is how we feed the animals.”
I would assume that by “animals” the peanut thrower was referring to toady “journalists”.
GWB only helped them by dropping low wage earners off the federal tax rolls. As long as we have this high of a percentage of citizens that see the government as a provider this country faces ruin.
Have the two peanut throwers been identified?
Were they credentialed delegates?
Or other members of the media? (who outnumbered delegates)
Until these two are identified, I’m skepticsl of any opinion on the matter.
“...a sizeable racially intolerant element within its base pining for the restoration of white privilege is neither new nor accidental.”
Show me. As hard as I look at the Republican Party, I don’t see any evidence of this. What I do see is the straw man argument created by the radical left and people who are foolish enough to believe it. Can someone show me the “base” that is pining for white privilege? It doesn’t exist.
“The Democrats want a race war.”
They've done it before.
Something 'the author' isn't capable of to question. Seeking truth has nothing to do w/journalist's.
Registered democrats, of course.
The author can go persecute himself.
Like one of the reader’s comments said, the guy gets paid to moan. What a deal!
They appear to be slipping back to their old ways.
For a while there, they were pretty fair and honest.
I know a person who was a delegate on the floor and she said that they ALL treat the press with respect, because they do not want to do anything to put the party in a bad light.
She also said that Code Pinkers, and the like, were out en masse, begging people for guest passes. She said she got hit up three times. That is how Code Pink got on the floor.
I am SURE that these alleged peanut throwers were leftie plants, who were trying to create a fakeroversy. I just know it.
This was a set up.

2012 is an important year to remember 9/11 because our younger generations are the most in danger of forgetting what really happened.
Or worse, our younger generations are susceptible to getting a politically correct view of 9/11. Many on the Left have tried to turn 9/11 into a day of national service or a celebration of tolerance, instead of remembering that radical jihad attacked this nation because of our western values.

At some point, the middle class will get sufficiently fed up with the dysfunctional underclass, that we decide to stop enabling their dysfunctional behavior.
I absolutely do NOT want to diss the Lord, though I am not a fanatical bible thumping Christian I have faith in God.
By remaining in that frame of mind I find it absolutely impossible to support anything surrounding Obama, doesn’t matter what he says or how much he says he is Christian he is NOT.
Anyone voting for Obama is giving the middle finger to God.
The non racists voted for pro civil rights Nixon, who desegrated the schools.
