Jim DeMint is retiring from the United States Senate and will take over the Heritage foundation.

Heritage is certainly getting one of the conservative superstars of this current era.

But what will this mean for the Senate and the future?

It means either Trey Gowdy or Tim Scott could be appointed to the Senate seat by Gov. Haley.

Haley will appoint whoever she’s told to appoint.

I hope he has building a new political party, the Tea Party in his sights.

Maybe Demint thinks he can kick Boner’s butt with greater force and frequency from the Heritage Seat.

Great news! DeMint can do more to communicate the values and benefits of Conservatism at Heritage than he can in the Senate. The Senates is a legislative body. We don’t need more laws. We need more Conservative Voters. DeMints background and experience as a communicator and marketer plus his unquestionable Conservative credentials make him a perfect fit for this role.

I see this move like the Biblical parable: DeMint will teach men to fish rather than being part of the machine that gives people fish.

(And I think one of his first new hires ought to be a certain Alaskan fishermans wife ;-))

This tells me a lot, none of it pretty:

1: Conservative voices are meaningless in today’s Washington.

2: The Senate is no longer an important deliberative house.

Congress is only important in the eyes of the media when it’s controlled by Democrats and a Republican is POTUS.

Otherwise, it’s trivial.

Not so fast. What you say may be somewhat true, or really true but DeMint is doing what an honorable person with true leadership intent needs to do to have a much greater voice than he could over "Dingy Harry."

I think besides trying to lead with a very loud voice from Heritage, DeMint is also one of the really good conservatives who could easily garner enough supporters to take a run in '16.
