send me a note...

Thanks for the ping lysie. I designed the badge but another Freeper made the products. How may I be of service to another member of the class of '98?

OK, here is the story as best I remember. There is, or was a freeper member named “Buckhead” from Atlanta who was the person that blew the whistle on the CBS news Dan Rather false story during the 2004 election about letters falsely proving Bush used special influence to keep from being sent to Vietnam. Freeper Buckhead was the first person to notice the phoney letter that was supposed to be from the late 1960’s was typed up using modern word processor equipment, not a typewriter from the 1960’s. Freeper Buckhead’s discovery lead to dan rather being fired from CBS. The pajama thing comes from Buckhead himself, who use to say that he did his anti dan rather research while wearing Pajamas in front of his puter. I think this is a reasonably accurate but very short explanation of what happened 8 years ago.

Buckhead is still active. I just looked, he last posted 12/1.

And that’s a reasonably accurate summary of events as I remember them. I remember reading buckhead’s post soon after it was made and thinking “this guy is spot on!”

Anyone who came of age with typewriters and then worked with desktop computers - and their printers - from the beginning “got it” immediately.

And I think the pajamas part came about because of a derisive comment made by some mainstream media news type about “disgruntled bloggers in their pajamas” - soon after which it became apparent that said bloggers had sleuthed out CBS’s lies and taken down Dan Rather.

Do you have any more of those badges. A couple of my local Tea Party (one is an old time freeper like me (96)), and they saw mine and were wondering if they were still avaialable?

Could use two right away. Maybe more if others see the badge itself.

Thanks

If you can find someone who could make a batch as good as the first one I bet you would get a lot of sales. Sounded like the guy who did the originals (really professional looking) made to many instead of making a few and then seeing what the true demand was.

Just hope he made some good money doing it. John Galt would be proud of his effort.

Damn. I remember that article like it was yesterday. The National Guard used the old style typewriters and this letter was in San Serif which wasn’t developed until about 84 or so. One thing that proved it was that and “i” nestles under a “T”, “f” and a few other letters something that an old style typewriter could not possibly do. It had to have been done on a computer, not on a typewriter.

The originals were very well done. I only have one left myself and I may put it under lock and key. ;^)

In any case, I presume you've contacted the guy that produced them, Freeper "Seeking the truth", by freepmail to see if he had any more? I wasn't aware he had gone out of business til I was pinged to this thread. I gather he probably had a going-out-of-business sale at some point and probably has few if any left.

I don't remember the original price of the badges but they weren't exactly cheap. I suspect demand for more would be fairly limited since the Rathergate dust up has all but fallen down a rabbit hole. Sorry I couldn't have been of more assistance, but good luck in your search.

That is what I am beginning to figure out.
It seems that most people have short memory spans and few if any remember what started this whole mess.
-—— a forged document that was so poorly done that someone with basic knowledge of the US Military (Natl Guard) and the advancement of computer print technology vs typewriter technology would clearly see through the fraud.
