Bobby Jindal: GOP must stop being 'stupid party'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called on the Republican Party to "stop being the stupid party" on Thursday as GOP leaders promised fundamental changes to help stave off future losses.

In the keynote address at the Republican National Committee's winter meeting, Jindal said the GOP doesn't need to change its values but "might need to change just about everything else we are doing."

"We've got to stop being the stupid party. It's time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults," he said. "We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive and bizarre comments. I'm here to say we've had enough of that."

Jindal, thought to be a potential 2016 presidential contender, offered little detail in the 25-minute address. He called on conservatives to shift their focus from Capitol Hill number crunching to "the place where conservatism thrives — in the real world beyond the Washington Beltway."

Hours before the speech, Republican leaders promised to release in March a report, dubbed the "Growth and Opportunity Project," outlining recommendations on party rules and messaging designed to appeal to a rapidly changing American electorate. President Barack Obama's November victory was fueled, in part, by overwhelming support from the nation's Hispanic, Asian and African-American communities.

And this here statement is why the gop is the party of stupid...

President Barack Obama’s November victory was fueled, in part, by overwhelming support from the nation’s Hispanic, Asian and African-American communities.

His victory was due to an inept, uncommitted, etch a sketch candidate that was not really very different than the communist we have now...

fubo - communist

mcromney - socialist

if the gop wants to start winning, the formula is quite simple..

you have a party platform, back candidates that actually BELIEVE in it and will FIGHT for it... in other words, the good ol’ boys network has got to be dismantled.

That is just a bunch of meaningless posturing.

Until the Republicans offer a real alternative to the Dems, they are going to continue to lose. Why vote for Dem-lite? If the voter wants to go left, they go for the real thing -- the Democratic Party, not a party of tag-alongs.

The GOP/Republican leadership cannot seem to grasp that concept. They seem to think that, if they become MORE like the leftist Dems, they will become more electable. Sadly, the opposite is true, but they just don't get it.

Well, the Stupid Party stood by while this 2012 election was clearly stolen all across the nation. And what did they do about it? The Stupid Party didn’t do nuttin’ . . . and they never will . . .

The Stupid Party has no fire in their belly. Lincoln’s party is over and done with as long as people like Palin and Bachmann are considered to be buffoons . . . and people like Carl Rove (the Architect) are held in any kind of high esteem.

You blithering fool.

(not you SeekAndFind)

Stop selling out America. For crying out loud just stop it.

We sell out America, and send jobs elsewhere. For 20 years. And now start to wonder why we are no longer in charge?

BRING BACK AMERICAN JOBS. Now.

“stop being the stupid party” and Tigers should change their stripes to spots and Rattlesnakes should shed their rattles and Flies should stop flying and peoples in Chicago should stop killing each other.

Anyone else have anything I missed?

we also have to eliminate the challengers/candidates who are just plain stupid and make stupid clueless comments. This last cycle we had a few who just ruined their campaigns with unforced errors on the sentate and house level.

“This last cycle we had a few who just ruined their campaigns with unforced errors on the sentate and house level.”

Absolutely true. It’s hard to avoid this when the media is looking for something to jump on - specifically pertaining to GOP candidates, but we have to find a way.

when the media

That is a continuing issue that the Republicans have to learn to deal with or circumvent. 'The Media' are not going to change.

The Republicans need to figure out (1) an effective message and (2) a way of delivering that message to the potential voters.

For years, their message seems to be 'we want to be Dem-lite with a bigger tent' and the voters keep rejecting it.

I hope Jindal doesn’t run for president. We need him as governor here in Louisiana to keep the communists/democrats at bay

You mean stop being perceived as the Stupid Party. There are plenty of scientists, doctors, engineers and successful businessmen in the GOP. We have to find a way to attack their stronghold, intellectualism, and show that there is much more to life and happiness and that mere knowledge is not the cure-all. In fact, too much knowledge, is toxic and leads to mental illness and eventually insanity in a brain where there is no wisdom or sense of balance. We also need to add a lot more youth and 20 and 30 somethings to the base. Love can be a unifying force and people will always gravitate to it when it is genuine.

In other words, any candidate who does not understand and fully believe that any word coming from the mouth of a member of the mainstream media is soley intended to bait and then destroy them, does not need to be on the ticket.

I agree.

Start by bringing back US jobs.

Now. Stop outsourcing the very jobs the younger voters need to live.

Stop strengthening the Dems. Bring back American strength and American companies.

Bring back American jobs.

We tried outsourcing. All it got us was unelected.

Exactly. If you fire up the base, the excitement will spread to the middle. You can’t win by abandoning the base and hoping to make up the difference with Democrats. They already have a candidate.

Now. Stop outsourcing the very jobs the younger voters need to live.

Oh look, its the Cringing pro-union, pro-tariff broken record.

Stop strengthening the Dems. Bring back American strength and American companies.

We tried outsourcing. All it got us was unelected.

Wait, the Dems have largely supported and pushed through the same free trade agreements that the GOP supports. Obama just recently got the South Korea, Colombia and Panama free trade agreeemnts passed. And the Dems are in charge. The Dems are winning with the free trade platform. Your logic is faulty.

Bring back American jobs.

As usual, what you really mean is keep competition out with massive tariffs. No thanks.

Conservatives thrive on competition, leftists hate it. Were it up to you we'd still be stuck with only the trash the big 3 automakers were churning out. To the extent they improved was solely because of competition.

With all due respect, I take issue with being referred to as:

“pro-Union”.

Otherwise thanks. :)
