Report: Senate Reaches Bipartisan Deal on Background Checks for Guns
The Blaze ^ | April 10. 2013 | Mytheos Holt 10

Could the much trumpeted goal (by many on the Left and some on the Right) of universal background checks for gun sales be one step closer to being met? Apparently, according to the Washington Post, it is. The Post reports that a bipartisan group of unnamed US senators has struck a deal on the policy.

Senators striking the deal include Joe Manchin (D-WV), Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Mark Kirk (R-Ill) and Patrick Toomey (R-PA).

The deal in question certainly moves the ball on the issue. Current law only requires that background checks occur when purchases are made through a licensed dealer. The new law would expand that requirement to gun shows, the internet and “any circumstance in which there is paid advertising.” It is unclear how far this last set of requirements can be read to go, though.

Nevertheless, the Democratic caucus has been left somewhat cold, given that the proposed legislation does not cover every type of sale. All the same, if the Post report is correct, it should reach the Senate floor this week as part of larger legislation that will expand background checks, make gun trafficking a federal crime, and increase school security....

“The GOP endlessly shoots itself and Constitutional Americans in the head. Why is it that the Dems are always united to defeat the enemy (us) and the GOP fractures and folds so easily and strategizes against its own supporters?”

Because they are peas in the same pod.

Fortunately gun control isn’t going anywhere in the House. I got this info directly from my congressman.

One thing to point out about a Filibuster; Reid can circumvent a filibuster anyway by allowing amendments. Once the amendments are passed the Bill will be killed.

The flame under that pot of frogs on the stove just ticked up a notch.

“Nobody would waste time on a bill that is already dead.”

Yes they would, it is called theatre.

“Conservatives need to fight against this bill every step of the way.”

I agree

“There’s a lot of support for gun control out there and the filibuster is probably the last line of defense.”

Nonsense, Reid has already said he would circumvent the Filibuster by allowing amendments.

“FYI, Boehner already folded and wants to take ‘action’.”

Nonsense. He said he would ‘consider’ it, but it has no chance of passage in the House without amendments, then it would be forced to conference where it would be watered down more. I do not see Liberals supporting the Manchin Bill.

The Capitol switchboard is in full meltdown mode and BOTH senators’ voice mail boxes are FULL.

Look up your guys’ LOCAL, in-state offices and leave a message there (not that it will do much good but ya never know, right?). Be sure to gently remind them that caving on this one will be equivalent to opening a Pandora’s Box that would be better left unopened.

Trust me when I say that the usurper’s handlers have all their stooges calling their support of obozo’s destruction of the Second Amendment/.

.the internet and “any circumstance in which there is paid advertising.”

Internet sales already require going through a licensed dealer. Duplication of laws is a common rat tactic.

Ok, the bill ‘might’ get watered down. But it’s not dead.

When you and others go around posting that it’s dead you are demobilizing the resistance. Now is the time to turn up the heat. The bill is not dead.

While the direct approach has its merits, a little sabotage can go a long way. In this case, start a rumor with the left that this is truly a giant bargain, that the House is also in on it, not just the Senate, one that they would be utterly horrified with.

The Republicans agree to more but still *limited* background checks; and they also agree to amnesty for illegals; and a continuing resolution to fully fund the government for the rest of Obama’s term in office.

HOWEVER, in exchange for this, not only will Obamacare be completely defunded, and the program killed, but also so will be Medicare. Over, finished, no more. And the Medicaid expansion will be canceled.

While utter nonsense, and maybe with some jiggering, this might be made just plausible enough for the leftist rank and file to think is for real. And they would lose their collective marbles.

Right now the Republican senators are being pressured, but they are such toads that they are used to it. But the Democrat senators would first issue lots of denials, that even their own people would not believe, and then they would likely stampede.

As far away from the gun control debate as they could get.
