Biden talks gun control with McCain at Ariz. forum

Vice President Joe Biden joined Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) at a forum hosted by the McCain Institute in Arizona Friday, where the pair discussed the recently defeated gun-control measure.

Biden told the crowd that last year’s massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., has changed American attitudes about guns, even though the Senate rejected legislation to expand background checks on gun purchases.

“Newtown was, to sort of use that old cliche, the straw that that broke the camel’s back,” Biden said, according to the Arizona Republic. “There was a fundamental change, in my opinion, in public attitudes about guns. It wasn’t marginal — it was real.”

Biden joined the Arizona senator for the McCain Institute’s Sedona Forum, the second annual gathering the think tank has hosted in Sedona, Ariz., since its creation last year.

McCain and Biden are friends from the Senate, and Biden's lobbying has been partially credited with convincing McCain to cross party lines and back the Senate’s bill.

Speaking alongside McCain, Biden said that the public is looking for some way to respond to last year’s mass shooting....

bell a buzzard.

So you say you're from the South? I'm in OK but had never heard the term so I was off to Google which brought back a link to a book on regional sayings. The book said this usage is confined to the Southeastern US but was uncertain why anybody would attempt to achieve belling a buzzard in reality.

McCain, the narcissist, is focused on his legacy. He wants to be more than just a footnote in the history books (I.e the white male who lost the election of 2008 to the first black president). He knows progressive academics will write the history books. He has likely bought into the concept that conservatism is dead and demographics mean Barack Obama and the Democrats will be successful in transforming the US into a socialist state. By helping further the progressive agenda (immigration, gun control) he is hoping future historians will herald him as a visionary who helped bring about the transformation and tried to temper the racists and fascists in his party.

Of course in the present his behavior ensures he will continue to be the star Republican on the Sunday talk shows.

McCain Institute’s Sedona Forum:

Held in the San Francisco of Arizona - a land of good hiking almost completely ruined by New Age weirdos and old hippies. It is a town that believes in witches, and admires them. A town where ‘vortexes’ are supposed to be the key to life (http://sedonasouladventures.com/sedona/). A town where the vast majority openly reject God as Creator.

It is a fitting place for John McCain to show his REAL inner nature and belief...

You count the votes and keep counting them until they come out right.

Something must be done to totally destroy McCain politically. He’s an evil menace and an enemy of America.

“Biden told the crowd that last year’s massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., has changed American attitudes about guns”

I believe he is correct, but in exactly the opposite way that he is trying to make us believe.

The fundamental change in attitudes about guns is that guns are viewed as acceptable and as useful implements protected by the Constitution.

This has happened through the tireless efforts of the gun culture, which has kept on educating those uninformed about guns.

This education process was lifted to an enormous groundswell during the last 5 months as millions of the gun culture activists debated online with hundreds of thousands of clueless and emotional anti-freedom statists.

The gun culture won. We have the facts, the culture, and the Constitution on our side.

It has changed the public debate forever. The peak of Gun control was 1994. This year, with the media pushing it at a fever pitch, and with the President pushing it full out, it came up empty.

Shhhh... the guys don't know Lindsey Graham snuck in. He's on all fours pretending to be the coffee table, holding a silver tray of cheese on his back. Don't feel bad for him though. He totally likes it.

Newton has changed American attitudes about guns

I'll bet mothers of violent children now lock up their guns lest they get shot in the face while sleeping.

“In other words, McNutt has stretched his 15 minutes into a half hour.”

The man lives for the camera. I’ve noticed that if a week or two goes by and he hasn’t been in the media he creates an event for himself such as appearing with Biden at the McCain Institute or backstabbing Ted Cruz. He is a pathetic human being who will sell out his country for a two minute interview on a Sunday morning talk show.

There are people who say we should honor McCain for his military service. Benedict Arnold was one of Washington’s best generals before he became a traitor and his victories contributed much to the colonists ultimate victory. However, today we do not honor his service. Does McCain deserve any better?

My Dad used to say it a lot when he was speaking of someone who was what he considered totally stupid.

No: There isn’t much reason to do it, but obviously it would be pretty simple, Just go around something dead and capture a buzzard and bell it.

McCain isn’t even bothering to be subtle about his liberal conversion any longer. Guess he isn’t worried about getting elected again. Remember ALL those conservative promises he made to Arizonans if they elected him again???
HE DID NOTHING he promised. Wish I had a dollar for every freeper who INSISTED McCain had seen the light and would not go back to his old ways!

[snip] 2010 AZ...During the conference, McCain said immigration reform is a top priority, but border security should come first. The Hill reports:

‘The lesson is clear: First we have to secure the border,’ McCain said in a press conference. ‘If you want to enact some other reforms, how can that be effective when you have a porous border?…So we have to secure the border first,’ he added.

Here’s the entire plan, from a press release:

1. Immediately deploy 3,000 National Guard Troops along the Arizona/Mexico border, along with appropriate surveillance platforms, which shall remain in place until the Governor of Arizona certifies, after consulting with state, local and tribal law enforcement, that the Federal Government has achieved operational control of the border. Permanently add 3,000 Custom and Border Protection Agents to the Arizona/Mexico border by 2015.

2. Fully fund and support Operation Streamline in Arizona’s two Border Patrol Sectors to, at a minimum, ensure that repeat illegal border crossers go to jail for 15 to 60 days. Where Operation Streamline has been implemented, the number of illegal crossings has decreased significantly. Require the Obama Administration to complete a required report detailing the justice and enforcement resources needed to fully fund this program. Fully reimburse localities for any related detention costs.

3. Provide $100M, an increase of $40M, for Operation Stonegarden, a program that provides grants and reimbursement to Arizona’s border law enforcement for additional personnel, overtime, travel and other related costs related to illegal immigration and drug smuggling along the border.

4. Offer Hardship Duty Pay to Border Patrol Agents assigned to rural, high-trafficked areas, such as the CBP Willcox and Douglas Stations in the Tucson Sector.

5. Complete the 700 miles of fencing along the border with Mexico and construct double- and triple- layer fencing at appropriate locations along the Arizona-Mexico border.

6. Substantially increase the 25 mobile surveillance systems and three Predator B Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in place today along the Arizona/Mexico border and ensure the border patrol has the resources necessary to operate the UAVs 24 hours a day seven days a week. Send additional fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters to the Arizona-Mexico Border.

Just so you can expand you lexicon with some southwestern flavor, we would say about that same kind of person that they don’t have sense enough to pour piss out of a boot. I think it would certainly apply to both McCain and Biden.
