Ted Cruz against the world: Senator’s feud w/McCain reveals arrogance-and continuing crackup of GOP

One bonus for Republicans in the trifecta of pseudo-scandals ensnaring the Obama White House this month is that it distracted the party from its looming civil war. It’s even possible that the Senate immigration reform got as far as it did partly because wingnut radio talkers and Tea Party xenophobes were consumed by their hatred of Obama, and paying less attention to GOP immigration sellouts.

But with the easing of scandal fever on the Potomac, Republicans are back to fighting one another, and the week-long Senate clash between freshman Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. John McCain over the budget is exposing the yawning gulf within the party once again.

Now that the GOP-dominated House and Democratic-led Senate have passed very different budgets, McCain has tried to argue for the formation of a conference committee that would try to reconcile the two. That might be a thankless, impossible task nowadays, but it’s nonetheless the way Congress has always worked. Democrats agree with McCain, and so do most Republicans.

But Cruz was having none of it, because he insisted sneaky Democrats might use the committee to raise the debt ceiling. He got support from Tea Party allies Mike Lee and Rand Paul, as well as Marco Rubio (trying to claw back the Tea Party credibility he lost by working on immigration reform). McCain reminded Cruz and his friends that their party controls the House.....

It isn't like the Dems have a history of promise-breaking and treachery....oh, wait.

“Why do people in Arizona continue to vote for this guy?”

Because they are “good” Republicans of the “country club” variety, Californian exiles, and Latin American immigrants.

Senator John McCain was a member of a financial scam team called The Keating Five. The operation affected millions of people losing their money.

They were never jailed for this thievery.

Senator John McCain, POW, etc., did serve his country with all the devotion that he had. However, he has repeatedly voted “No” on any bill providing more assistance, or medical care for other U.S. veterans.

I believe that Senator McCain is attempting to follow in the steps of the last life-long-served-in-the-well, the deceased Senator Robert Byrd. But it doesn’t work for him, because he is just plain arrogant, and not listening to his constituency, or the Will Of The People.

He needs to be removed from office, as showing all the signs of mental incompetence.

Now we need to get rid of Cornyn but that’s going to be more difficult than getting rid of Kay Bailey. He has a huge war chest and with election on the horizon he is now talking the talk, albeit somewhat forced by Cruz. Given the fact that most people have a short memory, Texans will need to be reminded of his liberal leanings in the past.

What a crock. Reid and McCain were not collegial in their frequent and gratuitously nasty comments and conduct toward Cruz and other Tea Party conservatives. Now, with Cruz and his allies jamming the Senate's procedural gears, Reid and McCain lack any credible basis on which to advance pious claims for "collegiality."

More important, in blocking a conference committee, Cruz's strategy seems to be to give the Senate (and Obama) the choice of accepting the more conservative House budget bill or letting the federal government go into shut down. This is gutsy political hardball that emasculates the Senate leadership and Appropriations Committee with their routine corruptions. Kudos to Cruz and his allies.

McCain has always been the MAnchurian Candidate.

Here we are, with the fate of the Republic on the line, and the Dems are laughing themselves silly over intraparty fighting.

Way to go, McLame!

Cornyns ears are probably still burning after the letter I sent him on the TARP vote.”

Wish that were true. One of our Congressmen’s staffers said he knows people that work for Cornyn and he NEVER reads anything sent to him. He is given summary review once a month but staffers answer all the queries and comments.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons I received a response related to tax increases when the letter I sent via his form and by fax was about his decision to let Murkowski keep her old Committee appointments.
