Blow: Blind to the Past — and Future
The New York Times ^ | May 31, 2013 | Charles M. Blow

As a new effort at comprehensive immigration reform inches its way forward in the Senate, dissent from many conservatives is revealing their true contempt for, and fear of, the possibility that demographic groups who look different from their base will accrue power.

The questions are: Is providing a pathway to citizenship (or at least permanent residency) for the 11 million people in this country illegally an act of humanity and practicality? Or is it an electoral imperative to which opposition ultimately guarantees political suicide?

The answer probably is “yes” to both, although many Republicans seem to think the opposite.

President George W. Bush, a supporter of a pathway to citizenship, spoke to The Huffington Post about the current efforts for comprehensive immigration reform, saying, “I think the atmosphere, unlike when I tried it, is better, maybe for the wrong reason.”

Bush continued: “The right reason is it’s important to reform a broken system. I’m not sure a right reason is that in so doing we win votes. I mean when you do the right thing, I think you win votes, as opposed to doing something that’s the right thing to win votes. Maybe there’s no difference there. It seems like there is to me though.”(continued)

Anytime you see the figure "11 million" in an article, you know the author is a liar and a Quisling traitor.

11 million would just cover the criminal invaders in Mexicalifornistan.

The two things that will make the media go into over-drive to destroy a up-and-coming politician: incorrect stance on abortion, and incorrect stance on illegal immigration. Both of these topics end up diluting American culture and result in a demographic shift toward third world status for the USA. That’s what the media is pushing for.

Never forget we are talking about politicians here. One reason to do amnesty is because its easy. Enforcing the immigration laws, securing the border and inducing most of the 11-20 million to self deport is hard. And the optics may not be so great as the press will document the poor illegals night and day as they have to pack up and head back to wherever because they can’t get the EBT cards anymore or a drivers license or their kids can’t enroll in school for free etc etc.

Yes its just a lot easier to let them all stay. Then the feckless hacks will be free to work on taking our guns, contolling our food supply and herding us all back into the cities.

... the possibility that demographic groups who look different from their base will accrue power.

There we go again, it's all about race and racism.
I stopped reading right there.
There could not POSSIBLY be any other reason, like preventing economic collapse, preventing a one-party state, protecting the rule of law, protecting minorities who are already here.
Am I wrong in noticing that the influx of cheap labor is actually hitting the blacks the hardest?

None of the above.
The real question is are we going to be a nation of laws equally and consistently enforced or are we going to be a commune open to any and all to be guided only by the popular feeling at that time.

That’s what the media is pushing for.

I understand that and agree. But I cannot fathom why.
Why take the greatest country in the history of the world.,..the one that created the freedom of the press being used to destroy it and deliberately dismantle it?

Its not about letting “brown people” take over or letting “black” people vote. No one is against legal immigration or “sharing” the pie.

But these people in the press and the dumblecrat party don’t want that at all. They want to destroy the very thought of America by giving soverign territory to illegals and stealing the pie from everyone else.

I know the vast majority of most press people are ignorant tools...I look at local tv bimbos and girly men and KNOW they are clueless about the blather they reguritate.
But every member of the dumblecrats are traitorous? Can that really be?

If so, I want no more of it.

It doesn't seem to make sense, does it?

I do think that it is, in part, a conspiracy from foreign leaders who understand how to destroy America. The Arabs, the Russians, the Chinese -- I think they make subtle moves to help us destroy ourselves. I think Obama is very much a part of that -- probably explicitly chartered to do that.

In a more subtle way, I think the media are useful idiots. They approach things emotionally. They can find rich and complacent Americans -- easy objects of hatred, especially if you are a struggling J-school graduate. And, they can find struggling families who are fresh over the border, speak no English, and have a sick child -- awwwwwwwwww -- who doesn't feel sympathy? Who doesn't want to help?? Put that on page one! It will sell newspapers! We can all feel good about ourselves because we care so much!

The media are clueless idiots who cannot see the forest for the trees. And their masters know how to manipulate their emotions and thereby their coverage.

I worked in academia and I have worked in the news biz -- I can tell you that, while their are exceptions, on the whole, the average IQ in these businesses is not high at all. These are stupid people who desperately want to show themselves to be the cream of the crop. By cheering for the underdog, they think that they show themselves to be superior to the rest of us.
