Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory (R-Opelousas) explains why he recently switched from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party. He discusses the history of the Republican Party, founded as an Abolitionist Movement in 1854. Guillory talks about how the welfare state is only a mechanism for politicians to control the black community.

Very well put. We need to be reminded of this more often.
However, what was this man like before, when he was a Dem?
What did he say, how did he vote?
Why was he a Dem if he holds the beliefs he says he does now?

I’m sorry to say I’ve not paid too much attention to local stuff (and I live in his city), but an earlier article stated he was originally a Republican who switched in 2007 to run for office in a heavily-Democratic district.

He’s more articulate than the Republicans speaking of outreach.
Sen. Paul needs to start working with this former Democrat to expand the GOP.

A great video and a good historical reminder. I hope this gets a lot of exposure. He presents his reasons for decision quite well. It made me proud to be a republican, and I don’t often feel proud of the party.
